Food & Wine Fest in Salinas

The Funsters (INC… Independent Networking Cartoonists) and I shared a booth at the Salinas Valley Food & Wine Fest this past Saturday… It was an interesting location they STUCK us in… RIGHT next to the Main music stage… a place where it was difficult to conduct business because you couldn’t hear anybody over the music. I was rather hoarse from all the yelling I was doing. Besides this, we were WAY off  of Main Street where all the other booths were (and placed next to a cigar booth… yes, they were smoking cigars next to us). Our booth location was kinda poopy… The only reason you’d even come down the corridor we were located in would be to go to the beer garden…. and well… it just was a lousy location. Although we (Chris Dreyer & Alex “Shoe” Schumacher and I) made some sales… it was not the experience I was hoping for. Message to Food & Wine people… do not put anybody  next to the main stage…. and be careful what you do to cartoonists… you may just wind up in a comic strip!

More APE… and… Food&Wine… and…

Okay folks… here’s a few more pics from APE… Pictured is “Mark Twain”… a Squid reader who dropped by the table and took to Harold. The energy in San Fran is amazing… (but don’t call it Cisco or Frisco, because you’ll get hauled into a dark alley and pummeled). Call it THE CITY… anyhow… I do like The City… and really ought to get up there more often. There’s art and interesting buildings and energy… and a disturbing pee smell in many areas (which I could do with out)… but I always get so inspired when I’m there… which carries over when I return… I’m feeling pretty buzzy now… or that maybe the second cup of coffee.

And this coming weekend is the Salinas Valley Food & Wine Fest in Oldtown Salinas. I will be sharing a booth with members of the Funsters I.N.C. group. What’s that?… you say? It’s the Independent Networking Cartoonists… of course! 12-5 pm on this coming Saturday, we’ll be selling our wares, being silly and having fun! Come by the Funster Booth… you won’t be sorry!

Back from APE’n Around…

I am returned from APE in San Fran… it was a great time. It is so awesome to see tooner pals that you mostly only get to see at conventions… and you get to meet new pals, too! Familiar faces pop up here and there… and the atmosphere is always lively and fun. Too, I always feel energized and creative and full of ideas when in the midst of so many other tooners! It maybe could be all the sugar and coffee you down to stay up…. but in any case, Harold, Judy (slave laborer/minion) and I enjoyed meeting so many peoples, new & old fans who stopped by the table… Brad from San Antonio, mysterious and vague fan in the Jawa shirt (which was pretty awesome)… Mark Twain… ahem, well, not exactly… and Jen & Alan… thanks for the chatting!

And Jack & Ver, ANDY & HoneyBee, and Mario… it was a pleasure being on the same block with you! And

Aidan and Alex… I wish you weren’t just down the hall but across from us… we coulda been throwing stuff at each other… how fun would that’ve been! Alex & Kaitlyn… glad we could do grub! It was fun!

So… I know I didn’t answer comments while I was away… so I went back this morning and answered the weekends comments. I do try to keep it together during my absences… sigh.

Harold got a new pal at APE… he’s a curious little fellow… but there’s something not quite right with Mr. Bun (name little creature came with)… ironic since Harold’s previous given name is Bun-Bun. Anyhow…I will keep my eye on Mr. Bun.

More exciting pictures, links, and insights upcoming!

APE is this weekend! Come to San Francisco and visit Squid Row at Table 832! The Alternative Press Expo is always so much fun! I have met some outstanding cartoonists there, and the vibe is more laid back than many of the larger cons people always talk about.

AND! … The first ever edition of Art-o-rama is DONE! If you subscribed, you can expect the zine (and art, if you gave at that level) in the mail shortly. I do hope that you dig my efforts. You will enjoy, I’m sure, the guest artist, Aidan Casserly, as well as some unique content you can’t find here on this website. If you wish to subscribe…. you have some options… email me… or go to Etsy… and you, too, can get joyous fun stuff in the mail!
