All this week… APE coverage.

Hi, Squiddies! Well The Alternative Press Expo was amazing. I had such a phenomenal time! Harold was overwhelmed and Nelson (aka Minion #1) was exhausted by all the coolness. In fact… there was so much coolness that my APE coverage will have to spread out over this week! So I will post a few pics each day this week… and blurbs about my APE experience. Hope you enjoy!

The little octopus with the badge (above) was from a company called Dorklandia… Nelson found the head Dork whilst roaming… he noticed the crocheted squid she had for sale… but alas… it was above my price range… but not the little octo-buddy here. Here’s Dork-girl with Harold…

Harold (with his APE button) is about to enter the building (the Concourse in San Fran)… can’t you just see the excitement written all over his little stufftie face?

Have you got yer copy of Squid Row: Welcome to the Neighborhood…. ?

If not… visit the Squid Shoppe and do like Harold here, and order up a copy*. (I think Harold has read it twice now!) It’s only $14.95… and it’s in glorious CMYK color! (ah… I love cmyk color)…

* not to make you crazy, but THAT holiday is coming… you know the one… the one that we sing about and lick peppermint sticks to. Why not get some Squid stuff for the ones you love. Givin’ gifts makes you go all squishy inside… it’s a nice feeling!

APE’n Saturday!

It’s about to be a busy and fun weekend. It’s time to visit the Alternative Press Expo (AKA … APE). This year I am not IN APE, I am VISITING  APE). It both saddens & thrills me. I get to spectate, carouse, sit in workshops, shop and visitate friends. It kinda makes me sad that I am not an APE-r as this year I have a friggin’ BOOK to peddle! (It is my fault… I didn’t get my *&^%% together and missed getting in….). Loser tooner.

ANYHOO… If you are going (APE), you may bump into me… I’ll be lugging Harold around. Too, my pal Aidan Casserly of Scapula has a booth (he got his %$## together)… and my other pal (I only have two) Alex Shoe (Schumacher) is giving a workshop (in which I will have the opportunity of attending). Yay.

So I will give a full report on APE… you’ll no doubt see pics of Harold APE’n around. And I will come back with lots of goodies which I will share! Oh, and I’m going to Lompoc on Sunday. (You won’t want to hear about that). Have a lovely weekend, Squiddies!

ARToberfest in Salinas, Ya’ll!

I’ve got a whole slew of new mini watercolors of the Squid Gang… that’s right… original art at super affordable prices (are you thinking X-mas yet?… you could be).

They will also be treats that can’t be beat, and an artist to meet… ain’t that neat? Harold will be there, of course. Come on up!

Drawn in to Daytripping

Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy!

Stuff  just came to my door!

… two very exciting books that my muddah sent (Tanks, Mah!).

Drawn In is a voyeuristic look into the sketchbooks of a buncha art-y type peoples. These sorts of publications make me mega-joyous. I am super into sketchbooking… I never leave home without mine. Right now I’ve got a Robert Bateman sketchbook which takes most media really well. I’m enjoying  doing the water coloring in said sketchbook as I was gifted honest to goodness real Russian artist quality water colors (thanks, Olga’s mom)…

Here’s visual aid… for giggles.

Full pan water colors… for serious.

Here’s the other livre that came to my door… It’s the wonderfully illustrated graphic novel, Daytripper.

The forward is by my tooney hero, Craig Thompson (Blankets*) and I can’t wait to dig in.

* and by the way, Habibi is finally released… years in the making…

Are you reading a graphic novel at present? … or do you have a favorite one? Tell us (briefly) about it…

****Uploaded lots of photos to Squid Row’s Flickr from recent events, and Harold-doings. See what we’ve been up to… (titles soon).
