West End is this weekend!

If you are here on the Monterey Bay, drop by the Squid Row booth, not far from the Music Main Stage. You’ll find new Squid Row goodies there. New buttons, magnets, watercolors… Harold will be there!

Also, as well… I’ve added a few new events in the events calendar… have a look see! There’s a large monkey in there… more to follow.

Art-o-rama Zine

And now for something new…

Okay, Art Fans… Do you like Zines? Do you like getting stuff in the mail? Do you like supporting artists/tooners? Then you’ll love this…

Starting in mid October, I will be distributing, via subscription, a new art/comics zine called Art-o-Rama. Does the title sound familiar? That’s because Randie, Spill & Enid make up that Art-o-Rama art club in Squid Row.

Each numbered issue of Art-o-Rama will be 8.5 inches by 5.5 inches and will consist of 12 pages with a card stock cover. The book will be filled with mini-comics, collage, art, recipes, photography, poetry, guest artists… and more. Squid Row will be spattered around inside… (think of mini comics with different characters… in a more graphic novel style…) Yes, this is a new, fun, and exciting way to experience Squid Row, art from Randie’s brush (and mine).

So how does this work, you ask? Okay… over on Etsy, you can find a subscription for the Art-o-Rama Zine… here’s the price breakdown:

For a year’s subscription (of 6 issues… one every other month starting in Oct ’12):  $30 (no extra postage for US)

For a year’s subscription (6 issues) plus a numbered work of art (along with each issue): $50

So why not get stuff ?… and help out an artist/cartoonist person at the same time! Why not head over to Etsy and get in on this groovy deal!?

WestEnd girls…

It’s August… and you will be able to find me in The WestEnd!

What’s this WestEnd you ask?

Okay… so you know that place where Spill lives?… Sandoon City? It’s based on a real city called Sand City (and I used to live there). And in Sand City is… the WestEnd… it’s a place… and… there are artists who live and work there… (you didn’t think I just made all this stuff up, didjah?)…

The WestEnd Celebration is a two day art and music event that happens every year in August. Squid Row will be there with a tent and a table full of goods (t-shirts, new buttons, books, original art and lots more stuff). So if you are in the Monterey Peninsula area, you really ought to drop in. There’s food, music and of course, art…

August 25th & 26th, 2012… see the above link for more info. And more info here soon!

My Spilly Pal…

You all know Squid Row Spill…
now meet Spill… the real person! Jill Spill, ‘tooner, artist, kindred spirit…

I met Spill (Jill) back around 1999… she had a studio/gallery in The Barnyard Shopping Plaza in Carmel. Her art was so lively, uninhibited, free and whimsical and fun. We had cartooning in common and we struck up a friendship.

It seems that opportunity whisked her away too soon as she left Carmel to live in Arizona but we kept in contact over the years, following each other’s artistic endeavors along the way.

I started my comic a few years after I met Spill. I pushed it at syndicates, but put it aside to do life stuff and then picked it back up in 2007. But it wasn’t until Enid’s entrance into the comic …when Randie started the Art-o-rama Art club, that led to our meeting Spill, (a friend of Enid’s). I felt that I needed some “artsy” friends in the comic. And I happened to know a most “cartoon able” artist who just screamed new Squid character!

Enter Spill. Again, the name didn’t need changing… nor did her appearance. I added some artistic lic. to Spill, making her a concrete artist and sculptor in addition to her own talents as a painter. But really, Spill is capable of doing anything… and that goes for both Spills! Squid Spill has evolved into a colorful and exciting character who still has so much potential to expand. That’s an artist for ya!

These are my Converse that Spill, well, Spill-ified. I think they are so much more fun than the off-white they started out! You talk about silly (or spilly!) If you want to see other wearable art done up by our pal, Spill ,you need only visit her website.
