Meet LaLa

Hello, Squiddies…I must apologize for not posting much since I got back from France. I threw myself at some commitments I’d made for when I returned… I taught some workshops at my local libraries… and then there is the upcoming issue of Art-o-Rama that I’ve been working on… so I have been hardly twiddling my thumbs.

But I wanted to share LaLa with you. It’s kind of a cute story.

So I’m coming back through the LA airport (from France) and making my way to the gate for our connecting flight… and perched atop a vending machine is this little… stuffed creature. I stare at it for a moment and realize “someone has lost their little pal.” Knowing that an airport cleaner person would just throw the little guy away, I snatched him up and put him in my bag. I called him LaLa, because of the whole being in LA thing.

Okay… LIA… (life imitating art)… I had a Randie moment of… OMG… I gatta rescue a stufftie! And so I brought him home… he went through the washing machine and is now hanging out with Harold. I’m not sure if LaLa’s little person will ever be found… but I will be a good foster parent. Who know’s?… the internet is a big place… maybe LaLa’s person will come forward… in the meantime… LaLa is pal-ing around with our Harold.

Oh… and here’s a sneak peek at the cover of Art-o-rama #6. It’s a France theme… and a reminder to those of you who subscribe…. It has bee a WHOLE year! It’s time to re-up!… that is, if you haven’t already! Zine should hit the mail in the next week (ISH). Smiles, ALL!

back for days…

Hey, Squiddies All!

Okay, I’ve been back a few days now… but I gatta tell you, it’s been a bit hard to return to life as I knew it before. They say a mind stretched can not return to it’s previous state. My mind got stretched like silly putty. A whole month in France has made me want to not just slide back into the routines and ruts I left behind, but to fling open doors and let in new perspectives and sunny ideas.

Right now I am listening to France Bleu… French Radio. It’s eclectic and every now and then, they throw in some disco or Beatles (in Anglais). For the most part, I don’t understand everything being said/sung… but I get words here and there. I like the weirdness of the music I don’t recognize… kinda like shopping in the FranPrix (a French grocery store).

I have found joy in French food and have decided to buy baguettes and chevre and whole “European Style” yogurt and Mueslix.

Harold is still wearing his beret… he isn’t wanting to be back from France either. He and I looked up a DIY recipe for Pastis this afternoon. For giggles. Pastis was cheaper than soda in France… as was the wine…. I’m proud of Harold… he kept it together in France (no embarrassing over-indulging in alcool incidents)… well, just one… but 3 glasses of Pastis will do that to anybody. Ahem.

I had the pleasure to meet a Squiddie abroad This past week. Minion met Harold & I in Cafe Du Metro… Not far from the flat here in Paris. Harold thought it was lovely of Minion (Marc) buying him coffee andPastis. Thank you Minion! It was a joy spending some time with ya… If you are ever in San Fran, Monterey or parts nearby…. Let us return the favor!

…Angouleme… It was everythinG I was hoping it would be. The BD Musee was incredible … The exhibit was wonderful! Seventy five years of Spirou was informative, engaging, and the center itself, tres incredible.  ok, ok … I will stop.

I was not really aware of what Spirou was but now I am greatly informed. It is both journal and toon hero in the Tintin Genre. There’s a squirrel pal named Spip… And there have been a large group of artists who have drawn him over the Years. the magazine itself is aimed at thee kid market… And I picked up a few issues at the Tabac Yesterday.

Iapologize for so few posts… The Internet in Angouleme was horrid. The current Internet situation isn’t turning out to be a whole lot better…. But I will try…

Angouleme… The Holy City

After a lovely drive through the French countryside… We made it to The Holy City… Angouleme is a twisty-twiney city where the roads seem to conspire against you. Getting lost will be easy.

Our hotel sits atop the city… And we have a fine view. We got caught in a light rain storm when we first arrived… We were searching for a dinner spot when the raindrops began to fall… It is quite muggy, but after the rather warm heat of La Rochelle, I am ok with it.

tomorrow I will discover the BD Musee! Joy!
