banner happiness

By sunday afternoon, I had something I was pretty happy with… I’d made two banners; one large with my main characters, and one small with just the title.

Putting Twinkie in at the bottom was Judy’s idea. She likes the little punk cat. The constant battle between human and feline is an often humorous affair… he deserves to get in. I let Randie have the last laugh with the paint blurb though.

Well, with the WestEnd Event coming, I needed to paint me a banner! Yes, Squid was bannerless until now. So I pulled out the ol’ paint box, and my buddy Judy helped me sew up some canvas complete with grommits, (Grommits are COOL!) and I spent the weekend in the garage! Here’s where I was at the start of the weekend.

For OldTown businesses in Salinas, First Fridays is like open house when you were in school. Your classroom was open for your peeps to come in, look around and ask questions….

First Friday is a lot like that for me. It’s a chance to open up the office and show peoples what I do. I like to talk to folks and introduce them to the comic, or talk about where it’s going and stuff like that.

Squid Books are Finally out!

Harold making good use of his time...

Finally there are books! You can hold Squid Row in your hands… (look out for the tentacles!). Each book has about 2 months worth of toons to enjoy and there’s a page of sketches in each book. You can find the three new silly squid books in the Squid Shoppe…

I am doing a weird thing. I have started with the beginning of 2009. And I will continue to print up a couple books at a time, adding to the stack… one successive book and then one BEFORE 2009. Okay, it’s sort of Star Wars style, but I wanted to print current stuff  first. You can email me with your thoughts and verbal abuse if you like.

say hello to my little friend…

It’s Harold!

Randie's little buddy

Randie's little buddy

Harold is the stuffed thing Randie carries about. When I first thought of the storyline involving “property of Harold,” I needed a stuffed toy to base it on… y’know, to make it easier to draw. (If you haven’t read that far back visit webcomicsnation in the archive). Anyhow, I’d had a floppy bunny given to me at Easter… a sweet chenile rabbit with weighted feet and long ears… he became my model. And so he lives at my office.

The other day, I was looking at him thinking “this little bunny should BE Harold…” Enter Judy and her sewing kit. I asked her to make the rabbit into Harold. And so she set out to removing the ears, adding the black stitching and attaching the button eye and tag which reads, of course, “Property of Harold.”
