Leap Year Chaos
Well,Squiddies… My computer just died… This is extremely bad news as I am on a deadline… So I am writing to you from Judy’s iPad. I want to tell you to back up your computer… yes, back up your info. The fate of my hard drive is still unknown at this point… But I do have a new Mac Book Pro chillin’ at the Apple Store and hopefully the contents can be transferred ala Frankenstein mode. Prayers are welcomed… So that said… Things may be slow on my end for the next few days. Daily toons okay thru sat… After that… Uh… Well, not sure.
This means extension on the kapu drink contest…
Thanks for your patience!
So very sorry to hear about your Mac.
My own HP laptop had a fatal motherboard failure. It turned out to be a good thing because there was a warranty-extending recall on it. It cost me a bit under $200 (I came in just after the recall’s close), but for that they replaced the motherboard, screen, screen case, keyboard, hard drive (they transfered the files), fan and battery. I bascially got a new laptop in return.
Maybe Apple will do something similar.
Good luck resurrecting your files from the dead and getting the Herald to rerun some classic squids along with an explanatory story.
Sounds like time to mix up a stiff version of my Kapu recipe.
Thanks stick… It is what it is… I will know more tomorrow. One thing for certain, I need to get a new version of creative suite… My super old version won’t upgrade to the new operating system. Fuh! But I am getting a new computer and that’s fun! I will most likely miss my deadline… I’m bummed but it happens.
I had a later flashback of bad memories…stuff you try to forget. As I better recall, the new hard drive did have windows but not any of the stuff on my original disk. I had paid a Monterey PC shop something like $200 to back up and then reinstall the files on my drive, but they left off a bunch of stuff that was lost and never was replaced. I have yet to reinstall some programs, others are forever lost… Ha, I did go out and get a backup drive, but have yet to use it. Oh, and the PC was gone for weeks…oh the withdrawl. No wonder I pushed all that all those miserable memories away.
Anyhow, great news for you on the replacement laptop. And the best for having your hard drive’s files transfered. Apple expert anyone?
With luck you won’t miss your deadline. But if it can’t be avoided, Gary and Royal can have an article done up about your life-immitating-starving-artist-art.
I have a habit of reinstalling my operating system fairly regularly on a whim (or testing future versions, I’m using a developer preview of Mac OS X Mountain Lion right now), so I always try to keep the important stuff OFF my hard drive, but every now and then I lose something I wanted to keep, so I know how it is. Good luck getting everything back working!
THanks Shelby… from now on… I will be much more diligent with backups and updates… lesson learned.
