Tentacles! Beware, the Kraken!
The amazing Tentacles exhibit at The Monterey Bay Aquarium had some very exciting things going on… One, there were actual squids and octopi and cuttlefish involved… which, since squid don’t do well in captivity, was a wonder. I realized, however, it was only the nautiluses that I captured digitally (I sort of had this crazy discovery and fascination for them… I didn’t know anything about them before this!). What was also grabbing me, or rather… sucked me in, was the overall design of the show and the involvement of several artists who created “Squid Art” … including San Fran sculptor, Nemo Gould . As an appreciator of the cephalopods, this show really rather spoke to me and I felt like a little kid bopping around “under the sea.”
I will post more as the inspiration continues, including some watercolors and such…
Very cool. Wish I could go to it! Not going to complain much about he focus on nautiluses (nautili?), since they’re pretty awesome looking little critters hehehehehehe.
Looking forward to the Brig-work that results!
Heh, you have never been really close to an octopus until you are SCUBA diving, and one decides to crawl inside of your goggles for a nap. 😛 (It didn’t happen to me – but a friend has pictures of when it happened to her. And is not all that uncommon. Octopuses are very good at squirming in and out of tight spaces.)
