Legacy… hmm…. interesting perspective. So do you think that Squish is trying to gain a new church member as opposed to inviting Ryan along to an event she enjoys being a part of? What would be the reasons Ryan would not want to go…? …other than not being a “churchy” kind of guy…?

Of course, we don’t know Squish as well as we’re going to. But my first hunch is that Squish is just inviting Ryan along because she really doesn’t separate her “church life” from her “work life” or her overall “normal life”. It’s just an aspect of who she is and what she does. I’m guessing that Ryan will end up having a better time than he thinks he’s going to have.
Pete…. good assessment… Squish would definitely be a “Yah! SO WHAT if you don’t like it” kind of gal. She is becoming more and more like my BFF in high school. Metal-loving Catholic spunk-girl who had a tendency for bending the rules more then her mild-mannered BFF.

It was a social invitation, sure, but it wasn’t exactly a date. Churches tend to, you know, like having more people come do stuff.
So as attempts to get out of something go, that wasn’t brilliant.
