Snake Girl
Spoiler here… And I am really sorry about not posting this on the outset… Do not read these comments if you do not want to know what happens…
I’m fond of Prof. Snake, I mean Snape, myself. He’s flawed… hurt by his own circumstances… and yet not making them any better by his own actions. I was disappointed with his death. I understand JK’s reasoning… but I think he deserved better.
The person spoils the ending– you are that person.
I have no idea why you would post that without a spoiler warning. If I decide to read the books/watch the movies, I hope I forget this by then.
That’s the painful part about being a novelist, though, Brig: A lot of times you DON’T have control over what happens. I know that sounds silly. But oftentimes when you’ve a good story going, the writer feels like he/she is little more than an observer.
In one of my novels, I had set up a character to be the penultimate bad guy. I set him up for two whole books, in fact. Then I get to the second to final chapter and *poof!* he’s suddenly NOT the bad guy! I left there with having no clue who it is. Finally after two months of being unable to move forward with the story, on a drive home from work it hits me who it really is. I didn’t want to believe it, but I’d put the hints throughout both books… and I’d missed them. Now knowing who the bad guy REALLY was, it tore my heart out to finish the story. But I had to remain faithful to what I’d written and ended up killing a character I was extremely fond of.
I applaud JKR for following through on what she knew to be the right path, painful as it was.
L… I am really sorry.
Life imitating art imitating life right there! In such an ironic funny (and not funny) way.
Pete… Stories, and comic strips, have a tendency to go off in their own direction… don’t they? !!! Your “bad guy/not bad guy” character surprised you… it’s funny how that happens. B.B. originally was more of a solid pal for Randie… she sort of withered… like sometimes in real life. And I recently wrote in a story this past week that just sort of JUMPED in on me. It was a little bit of a surprise… how it came to be.
As far as JK… I was enthralled by the entire story and the way it meandered around (like a snake). Like real life, you’re not always happy with circumstances and outcomes…. but overall, it’s a fun ride.
What? Snape dies? I had not read the book, but did read this strip a tad past midnight. Instead of the spoiler alert, now added, I would have thought removing the death comment would have been a better way to go. I’m still looking forward to the movie though.
I’m now sort of surprised that Grace was not in attendence, or maybe she was but just outside the frame of view. Seems like she and snake girl would, or should, run about in the same social circles. International Order of the Snake…ha. Official letter of disgruntlement…ha ha.
brig… go back to yesterday and you’ll see somewhat of a midge lookalike (has only one eye though), and a funny take on not dressing up for a Harry Potter screening.
Yah… I’m sorry about that, Stick. But I own my mistake and that is why I left up L’s comment and my original post… I put the Spoiler Alert up so I don’t feel bad for anybody reading past that. I DO wish I’d thought things thru better when I uploaded this toon. Bad Cartoonist, Bad!
I wish the “Squid Row” version of Prof. Snape was Prof. Ape. That would be really, really funny; it makes you think of a chimp with an Alan Rickman expression.
Came across this story about a Zappos (web shoe seller) advertisement.
Uh…nice Vespa…and…uh…that rider…sort of looks like…Randie.

Dada: Gah… I can’t even picture an Alan Rickman ape. No! I won’t… I’ve put it out completely. I happen to think Rickman is sexy…. there’s no such thing as a sexy ape.
Stick… speaking of sexy…. um… Vespas are waaaaay sexy…. Would you have even guessed that they were selling shoes?
brig… Yeh, uh, huh, shoes?
Actually it is ment to promote the site now selling clothes as well.
I like how there will be a phone app in the campaign where you will be able to add clothes to the various girl advertisements from Zappos’ new line-up (sort of like cut-out paper dress-up dolls) and then order the same clothes for yourself.
How many years have the HP books been out–and now they’re on what, the 8th movie, right? I shouldn’t think there are enough rocks left on the planet to hide under from the information overload, whether one is interested or not. I hope L has seen Star Wars. For Chewie’s sake, please don’t anybody tell him/her that Darth Vader is REALLY LUKE AND LEIA’S FATHER! Bwahahahahaha!
Me and my spoilers…
Actually, comparing the strip to the books, there was no spoiler in the strip itself: All that is said is that something happens to Prof Snake which The Snake Bore didn’t approve of. Any spoilers that occurred were as a result of L’s extrapolation of what was said in the strip. Brig’s blameless, here.
As for the strip’s comments, by other people, yes.
But on the other hand, those of us who have read the books and seen the films are certainly not going to wait for any interested parties to catch up 😛
Astra… Perhaps you did not read brig’s “Snake Girl” commentary.
Also, the last film has not yet been released, so the movie followers of this series are not catching up to you in that sense, whether you’re interested in such, or, more apparently, not.
Methinks somebody overreacted here, and it wasn’t our favorite cartoonist.
EO…
No man is an island,
Entire of itself.
Each is a piece of the continent,
A part of the main.
If a clod be washed away by the sea,
Europe is the less.
As well as if a promontory were.
As well as if a manor of thine own
Or of thine friend’s were.
Each man’s death diminishes me,
For I am involved in mankind.
Therefore, send not to know
For whom the bell tolls,
It tolls for thee.
— John Donne
Thanks for the apology and the addition of the spoiler warning. It takes real class to own your mistakes.
Seriously? Spoiler?
It rankles when people haven’t bothered to read the books…which came waaaay first…and then whine because the movie’s ending has been ruined.
Thanks all, for your encouragement, but I really did biff it by first posting Snape’s death in my comment section under the toon… I was called on it and so I posthummusly (me funny) added the “spoiler alert” thing to preface. So all turned out okay-ish. Again, my apologies.
