Having recently visited Portland, these are cartoons based on photos/experiences I had whilst in the Rose City. However, I’m not nearly as eloquent as Ryan.

“Portlandia Lady” (seen in panel 2) seemed to me to be a stab (ha ha, get it? …the trident?) at Seattle’s Starbucks mermaid… or at least that’s what it made me think of.

It actually did rain on me at the Rose Garden.

And panel three is from a sketch I did while sitting upstairs in the Pearl Room at Powell’s Books. Ah, Powell’s… it has the most comprehensive and extensive cartoon/humor/graphic novel section on the planet! I picked up 3 Jim Mahfood books, a book on The Frederator Studios, and a collection of Ryan Claytor comics called “And Then One Day.”
