I loved Carol Burnett and Laverne & Shirley… Carol Burnett has a timeless-ness to it. The comedy wasn’t mean or vulgar… just silly and fun.
Sadly, I don’t think L&S holds up as well today. I caught an episode the other day, where Laverne gets nabbed for “stealing” a hankie at an upscale dept. store…. and goes to jail. I found myself somewhat annoyed by the humor. Maybe it was just me. As my friend Alison Rosen questions… is it me or everyone?

Honestly, meybe it’s everyone. I grew up with Laverne & sherley, and I still get the humor.
You don’t EVER want to watch Carol Burnett when you’ve an upset stomach. You’ll laugh so hard at their episodes that you’ll have an episode yourself. Well, if you do, at least put it on pause when you find yourself making a trip.
I saw the “Gone With The Wind” episode when it first aired. Our whole family nearly DIED laughing when Carol showed up at the top of the staircase. I don’t even remember what happened after that, I was so broken up with laughter.
Seinfeld or Simpsons (Simpsons seasons 3-8, the good years) will put me right back to sleep. I know those episodes like the back of my hand and they calm me right back to sleep. Randie, get a computer, I watch everything from a computer these days.
I used to watch Carol Burnett just to see Tim Conway and Harvey Korman crack each other up. Oh, and Mama’s Family started as a recurring sketch on CB.

Joe… I never knew what that meant as a child.
Squid… another sitcom that was funnier at that time, was “Family Ties”… the humor is so slow now. I guess “Friends” with it’s quick laugh a second humor made everything, well… slow.
Pete… I KNOW! I LOVE LOVE LOVE Carol B.! And her humor doesn’t seem to age… and that Gone With the Wind episode is priceless! And “Mrs. Whiggins” always gets me!!!! We say that a lot around the house…
Jack… Yah… too bad Randie doesn’t have an internet connection at the house… but that’s what the coffee shop is for.
Yat… Tim & Harvey…Yah! Harvey would just lose it… and you could see it coming!
Dada… Buh- BUH- buh dah dah dah dah duh dah dah… I loved the theme music! … and will burst into it at any given time! For whatever reason, I would always catch the show on the last skit, and when the credits ran at the end (with the mopper-lady)… it was a “DARN, that’s the end” moment.
My favorite thing to watch when I’m sick is old MASH re-runs
oh heavens…. now the theme from Laverne and Shirley is playing in my head. How the heck do I remember that?! I couldn’t have been more than 5 when my mom was watching it!
Lucy and Seinfeld are my two timeless comedies. Love Carol, too. I can watch episodes over and over again and still laugh. Those others…I didn’t even care for them the first time around. Anyone who would wear a hugh ‘L” on everything…well, that’s just dumb.
Carol Burnett was, and still is, the bomb! And the chemistry of the cast on her show was phenomenal. A tour de force that will, due to the cheapness of “reality TV”, never be repeated.
