Labor Day
Happy Labor Day, everybodys! I do hope that you don’t have to work today and are doing fun things.
I don’t miss those days in retail where I worked on this day of Labor celebratoryness. Retail rewards the work force by making them work MORE and LONGER… ironic, non?
So be nice to your clerk, barista, person who is working hard today for his/her wage! Maybe give them a smile… maybe an extra quarter in the ol’ tip jar.
…means a day off. I don’t get many days off…
Why is it called Labor Day if we don’t labor?
New characters for the series?
The dude talking about the last day to wear white doesn’t look like he ever wears white.
It shows how powerful the big labor unions used to be, that they could leverage the federal government into declaring a national holiday in their honor.
LaboUr Day! It’s Labour Day! Sheesh. You people south of the 49th parallel and your weird spelling.
And the football season begins in July! It ends in November! After that it’s too darn cold to play!
I’m telling ya. Some people’s children
Does wearing-white-guy seem familiar… Dada?
Hope you all enjoyed Labour Day… I did. Today I saw The Lone Cypress… So where was I?
Ps… The artist/cartooner is holding up a glass…
actually, while small retail businesses may force their labor force to work longer workdays, where i work, it’s just the opposite…except for myself and the department leads, NOBODY is allowed to be full-timers and NOBODY, especially the fulltimers, is allowed to work overtime, without EXPRESS consent from management (and they only give it with extreme reluctance).
I for one am glad that Labor Day (sorry S’toon but spell check marked it as misspelled your way) is behind us. For me it means the closing of the swimming pools in our apartment complex and I’m very glad of that. Most people would be sad to see the pools close for the summer, but for me having them open is one big noisy nightmare.
One of the pools on our complex property is right under our apartment in kind of a little alcove created by my building and another, which means that it collects and amplifies the sound. (Read as screaming kids all day everyday that the sun is out.)
Add to that that we have a lot of people who don’t seem to realize the point of showering before they get into the pool which leads to a nasty pool of dirty human soup. Include people who don’t realize that they shouldn’t put diapered babies in the pool either and you have a pool that I will never swim in.
As if all of this were not bad enough, my husband being one of the maintenance workers for our complex has to deal with the cleaning of the pools, so he see all the nasty stuff that people do to both pools on a regular basis. He once had to go around and clean up about 10 condoms that had been left all over one of the pool area’s including in the pool.
He said that they didn’t look like they had been used thankfully, just that someone had thought it would be funny to open a bunch of condoms and lay them out all over the place, on the fence, on the chairs, in the pool, etc… (Yeah, we have some real winners that live in our complex) so needless to say, pool season is something we dread every year. The pools open on Memorial Day and Close on Labor Day.
YEAH BABY!!! COLLEGE FOOTBALL THIS PAST WEEK-END AND FALCONS FOOTBALL THIS WEEK!! LIFE IS AWESOME AGAIN!
firedome… that is so they don’t have to pay for benefits, yes? The Disney Store had the same exact policy. That’s why they hired lots of college kids.
Pasha… uh….RRRRUUUUUNNNNNN! Far away! As fast as you can! Oh… I should have posted this on tomorrow’s comments… but well… anyhow…
Audra… sigh… do you paint your face at football games and throw french fries…? Oh wait… that was us at high school football games.
Ohhhh…gotcha. Nice job, Brig!
The wearing white guy wouldn’t be Bela Lugosi, would it?
No painted face at football games…just jersey, hat, sunglasses, and of course my trusted little Gnome!! ha ha ha But Popcorn has been known to accidentally fall out of my hands an onto others for the opposite team!! ha ha
