This cartoon reminds me of the “What’s in YOUR wallet?” commercials…. or that song I used to blast at high decibels, “Where’s your head at?”
Art exercise: Get out your sketch book and draw what’s in YOUR head, what’s on YOUR mind, where YOUR head’s at.
*** AND… this is the last Sunday comic strip…. meaning that I will be starting a Monday-Wednesday-Friday format for Squid Row from now on. That’s not to rule out EVER having a Sunday comic ever again! But it won’t be a regular thing. This allows me time to work on other exciting Squid Row projects!
i would draw the stuff in my head, but look what happened to pickman ….
I will miss my daily dose of Squiddiness…although I do understand why you’re doing it.
And THIS would make a great T-shirt!
This is your brain on Art. Any questions? I love the Starry, Starry night and Munsch’s The Scream! And Anatman, don’t thiink you’re the only one who gets the reference to Pickman…
Right after I start reading a webcomic it always alters the update schedule, never to more frequency. Sheesh, I’m an albatross!
As for my head…… This is a family friendly comic, and my head doesn’t contain much of that description. Therefore my head contains a few scraps from my Pocket Philosopher, some very good friends, lots of wild game recipes, and my son.
Pickman’s “problem” was that his “model” wasn’t (just) in his head.
brig, you really don’t want to see what’s in my head — I’m a chess player and a mathematician.
Squiddies… I am rather, or was rather, conflicted about going to three days a week. I have been daily since 2007… BUT already, since I have been on this new schedule (I work way ahead), I have put together the new Squid Book to be released in May… I am about to throw myself into a rather involved Squid Row graphic novel that I am certain you will (eventually) enjoy… I am so excited about this!
Please don’t go away, valued Squiddies! The stories will continue… I can’t not do Squid Row! It is so a part of me and I so enjoy writing it. I hope you enjoy reading it.
Now as for what is in your head… I imagine, Lady Jenn that there is a lot of Bacon in your head…. Not actual bacon ( although, there might ) … But the disturbed 60s painter.
Beetles… Math scares me… It is probably just as scary as a Bacon painting… Or Geiger…. Blecht!
Anatman/Rich… Pickman is over mon tete.
Rich… Starry, Starry Scream?
EofO… It is gonna be great… Wait and see!
Pickman is classic HP Lovecraft – quel horreur! Un bete noir, certainement!
Ils ne pas pour vous, ma cheri!
I can see this animated as a Terry Gilliam cartoon.
Why is the butterfly going the opposite direction from everything else? Is part of you trying to escape the rest of you? I feel that way sometimes!
Francis Bacon…… actually both of them…… have indeed found niches in my skull. As has the story ‘Pickman’s Model’ (as well as most of Lovecraft’s work). But that’s the calmer parts of my psyche. And the worst part is, among my circle of friends I’m considered the SANE one. Most of my skull is full of violence and x-ratings.
And fear not abandonment, brave artist! I’ve just gotten used to the particular brand of sunshine-and-friendship nausea I get from this particularily warm and fuzzy strip. I, at least, won’t be bailing out for the near future. If that’s good or bad news I leave to the rest of you to judge. Just one quick question though…… Why ‘The Scream’? Never saw the appeal to that one, I much prefer ‘The Sun’, but I assume there’s a reason.
I will be sad to miss your daily updates as I was a fan of reading a whole week of toons in one sitting. Looking forward to that grafic novel.
Continue ton beau travail!
Lady J,
I prefer Roger.
Rich… ah… Yah, okay. THanks.
Dada… and then a giant fist comes out of her head and rainbows and weird colors… oh, it does kinda look like that… okay puppet mouth and rolling eyes…
Jim… it was more technical but the Happy symbolism is nice. There was some blank space and I wanted to fill it with something… something that made sense.
Jenn… of course you would know of F. Bacon. And why the Scream…? I guess that it symbolizes the artists’ perspective… the “I see what’s going on and it makes me crazy” … The inner scream of realization.
Eprinc… I am glad that you enjoy Squid Row and will miss the daily-ness of it. I will try to post something everyday… a picture of muse… just not a comic.
Okay, good answer. For the record I find Bacon’s work interesting….. not really good though. My favorite ‘artist’ is actually a luthier named Jacob Stainer.
For a tune, I’m thinking more along the line of “White Rabbit”, by Jefferson Airplane, because it ends with the admonition to: “Feed! Your! Head!”.
