Just let Twinkie ride in the front. I mean the front, front. That’s where the “trunk” is, after all. He’ll still make a mess of it, but you can hose that out. And it’s probably plenty safe there, yes?
I understand how the necessity of having a humorous antagonist in a story, but I’m STILL holding out hope that this will truly be the last time we see this cat.
Its like the ol’ adage, that I’m sure is a favorite in the insurance industry:
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
Plus, once they arrive, they can choose to either sell off the cat carrier or have Randie use it to tote around her loose art supplies. Either way, however, I’m pretty sure Randie will come out ahead of Ryan.
Joe… Good point. This seems to be Randie’s idea. Ryan’s already taking time off, and will be putting mucho wear and tear on the bug.
Ha. After all the preparation, Twinkie will probably make himself scarce once the travel day arrives and will host a cat party at Randie’s place while she and Ryan are up in Portland for the wedding.
I bought my old dachshund for $35. Over the course of his life he ended up costing thousands in vet bills, food, supplies, and finally, excessive damage he did to my old house and furniture. The cheapest thing about my dog was my dog.
I don’t know if Twinkie is worth $12.50, but considering you can get mean, ugly cats right off the street I would say less.
joe m…. I’m sure there was negotiation on gas-splitting.
squidman…. yes, the gas is cheaper in Oregon… and you don’t have to pump it.
small dave… yeeeeyah… there is that. Smelly cat pee.
grey… small price to pay, indeed.
Pete… that may rival Mitt Romney-style pet transportation. You may (or may not) get your wish.
stick… prevention is better, yes… and the bug is well-maintained… it should be okay… we hope.
joe… Yah… this mirrors when I was taking my cat cross-country to Ohio from CA… long &^%%$ trip for a cat. I did get a cat carrier AND a leash… which worked out okay. But I had trouble finding inexpensive…. in my research online… I did find one for less than twenty-five dollars at a dreaded Wal-place.
Jack… claws of death!
Dada… yikes… what was Dada’s Dachshund’s name?
Fuse… THat might work!
Meem… Yah… the only prob there is invariably, they won’t have a pet carrier until AFTER you got back from your trip.
Why isn’t Beebs paying for the carrier? It’s her danged cat. If I had to leave my cat and my friends were willing to drive her to me, it would be the least I could do.
Hi, SMU… welcome… Beebs has a history of lackadaisical responsible cat ownership-ness. In this instance, Beebs isn’t aware that the cat is coming. BUT, she should’ve been a bit more helpful in the cat-looking-after part that Randie and Ryan have been involved in. Certainly, Cat support (vs. child support) hasn’t been paid on a regular-like basis.
Are they going to split the gas too?
At least when they get to oregon, they won”t have to pay tax on the gas.
He can still pee in it and have it leak all over the place. There’s just no way to win, when transporting cats.
Small price to pay, Randie … it’s a $25 purchase towards peace of mind, remember that!

Man, what pet shop is that? When my cat was a little kitten, the CARDBOARD cat carrier was $25!
Watch out for the openings on the door. I bet Twink has got a super reach. You almost need a concrete box for that feral feline!

Should’ve tried a thrift store. I’ve seen them for $3 to $5.
Double boxing?

It’s called craigslist– I picked up a cat carrier for $5 there.
