Bread
The French are serious about their bread. It is a common sight to see folks walking down the street with a baguette under their arm, or munching away at it while on their way to wherever. No butter… just munching away. In fact, butter is rarely served with bread… unless it’s breakfast… and then you get butter, confiture (jam) and a sliced (in half) baguette. They call this a tartine.
There is an amazingness about the simplicity of bread there… and how downright TASTY it is.
.. guilty of this, I admit. I often had to buy two baguettes on my way home or I won’t have for breakfeast…
But well, french bread is number one in my stomach.
Have you tried half-salted breton butter with a fresh baguette?
If a bread is good enough, putting any sort of condiment on it is an insult. I’ve eated “dry” bread since I was a child, and rarely do I add anything to take away from its own amazing taste and texture.
how serious about bread? this serious
And that soft, fat loaf that looks like French bread at the supermarket? Yeah, NOT French bread. I’ll accept a cheap loaf of store bread for what it is. It’ll make pretty good toast, after all. But baking it to look like something else? That should be considered false advertising.
Val… I miss the bread in France! It was AMAzing! Sigh… And, no… I have not tried the Breton butter! Must try!!! Next try!
Dawn… I suppose… But goat cheese!!! Love the goat cheese!
Anatman… Wow!!! I was told that when bakers go on holiday, they network… Because people have to have their bread!
Rat… Agreed… I haven’t found anything close yet!
Brig…well, technically cheese isn’t a condiment. Mmm, cheese!
