Tintin
On my first trip to Europe, I discovered Tintin… it was at the Cartoon Art Museum in Brussels. Tintin is huge in Belgium and France… it’s not unusual to see Tintin stickers on cars and such… (Herge, Tintin‘s creator, was Belgian). Unlike Ryan, I didn’t take to the comic right away… it wasn’t until my second trip where I really began to read up. There are Tintin stores in London, and in Provence, France (places I visited) so it was hard not to notice.

Jeez, one of two European comic stars (with Asterix) that you can find in any American Barnes & Noble, and Ryan doesn’t discover him until he visits London. (Also timely, with the movie coming out this Christmas.)
C’mon, what about British strips like The Perishers, Bristow, Alex, the work of Posy Simmonds or Giles? How about a trip to the Forbidden Planet comics shop?
Funny detail, the german Title mentions “Tim und Struppi” so the dog get some credit as well. 😉
Stick: Yup. There’s a connection there between Rye & Charles (yes, after Prince C.) and Tintin & Snowy.
Traveller: Tintin is everywhere! I’d not expected Singapore. Wow! But Tintin is the “everyman” … or so they see him in Europe. I think it’s true. We don’t know Tintin much in America… we are about to though. (I will hold my opinion of the movie until I see it).

I do like Tintin (especially the blustering Captain Haddock), but my personal preference is Asterix the Gaul… What I could never understand about Asterix, though, was how the puns used for the people’s names were funnier and more appropriate in English than in the original French…

Awesome! I grew up on Tin Tin! ‘The Red Sea Sharks’ was my first one. I loved ‘The Crab w/ The Golden Claws’ too. Great nod here Bridgett. I’m not too sure about the Tin Tin movie though. *fingers crossed*

Tanks for the links for Tintin, ya’ll. I, too, like the Crabby story, Jack… The movie is about he Unicorn (which is a ship if you ain’t gathered) and I only read part one… I will wait to read part two until after the movie… don’t wanna “spoil it.”

Astragali… (where you been, man?) I like hidden meanings and symbolism and stuff you have to slightly dig at. It adds another layer of meaning.
I have yet to get into Tintin. As far as European comics go I’ve only checked out Asterix.
