Harold absolutely loved Stumptown! It was Harold’s first time in Portland. And he made so many new friends. There were so many cartoonists “doing their thing.” His Portland adventure took him from Guapo Comics and Coffee’s Stumptown opening party… to the comic fest, to walking along the river on an unusually sunny day.

I can’t imagine anyone disliking Portland… it’s quirky and eco-centric, and there are a crazy amount of cartoonists in residence. And it’s home to the Stumptown Comics convention! It’s where Squid Row is heading this weekend (see they knew I was coming!)
The buildings in Portland, so many in brick, are charming and old. My camera always finds it’s way to focusing on the architecture and the skyline.
The Saturday market is fun… the city has cleaned up the area… near Skidmore. You can find all kinds of nifty treasures there. I found some groovy fingerless gloves there last year.
One cannot visit Portland and not visit Powell’s Books… with several locations to serve you! I’ve been to two… the 5 story city block location and this one… on Hawthorne… I always seem to be on a time limit when I visit. This bums me out as I could spend an entire day at Powell’s!
And then there’s Voodoo Doughnuts. Okay… maybe donuts are full of sugar and empty calories… but “the magic [really is] in the hole.”
And STUMPTOWN COMICS! This year it’s at the Portland Convention Center (see the events button for full details!) Squid is at booth B-18… Come by if you’re in Portland.
