I think Ryan has found the singing equivalent to the old adage about driving a stick shift, “if you can’t find ’em, grind ’em”. I’m guessing it would be “if you can’t sing it, wing it”?
I find it kind of interesting that Ryan is a terrible singer. Normally, as a writer, you try to express yourself in any way possible, which includes singing. Song can motivate and inspire, which in a writer means listening over and over to the same song so as to understand the “magic” in the blending of the tune and lyrics.
There are some who have a true gift for singing. But like cooking, with enough training and/or practice, everyone can learn how to sing properly.
Heh – ask George Clooney how that works…. Related to Rosemary Clooney… but in O’ Brother Where Art Thou? you never heard his actual voice – and there was a reason for that…. 😛
I loved O’ Brother Where Art Thou? – and it is what I consider Mr. Clooney’s best movie. But, yeah, he had no idea that he COULDN’T sing until they recorded him, then played it back for him.
His aunt, the late Rosemary Clooney was a great jazz singer – but that gene skipped George. 😛
A surprise, for me, going the other way is that Steve Martin (that Wild and Crazy Guy) CAN sing – and has several bluegrass albums out…. (And was playing banjo long before becoming a standup comedian. 🙂 I actually prefer his banjo work, so… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=icMTVV5Lwaw )
ryan did warn her…

The Auld Grump
firedome… he did indeed!
Grey/Pete… I think Randie knows what to get him for Xmas… singing lessons.
Grump… I didn’t know that! I should’ve guessed though. But… he has a lovely voice when it is not singing. He’s forgiven.
all ryan needs to do is drink some starch before singing to keep those notes from wrinkling!
I like Bobby already.

The Auld Grump
If Rye Bread can’t hit the notes, he should at least scare them as they go by.
I’m guessing Ryan sings like Roseanne Barr.
Dada… ooo, what a horrible thought. NO one should sing like Roseanne Barr, including her!
M. Lonie…. the lip-syncing woulda been alright.
Grump… I love Steve Martin’s music. I don’t have any… but it makes me happy. And I love that Steve Martin isn’t afraid to be Steve Martin.
Bib… we may see more of him… or not (in frame).
anatman… starch? maybe some fortified eggnog.
