Funned Up
So maybe Ryan’s singing was more like screeching… but he had a good time. And my guess is that Ryan will have sugar plums dancing on his head tonight.

Hey, what’s your favourite Christmas songs, out of curiosity?
The Pogues – Fairy tale of New York
William… I love “Good King Wenceslas.” This is something Randie and I share. It is a song about a very well off King (how many kings aren’t?) who comes to the aid of a very poor man.
Another Top Ten Xmas Tune for Randie would be “Silver Bells.” If you get the Art-o-rama Zine, you’ll know what I mean when I say that it reminds her of Christmastime growing up.
This Christmastime, I am enjoying “The Holly & the Ivy” a good deal. And there is this French song; “Bring a Torch, Jeanette Isabella” … which I love to sing.
Wil… Hello! I just looked this up. It isn’t familiar to me. ( I mean I know OF The Pogues… just not this song).
Pink Martini put out a great Christmas album last year (year before?) It is pretty awesome… and then there’s a new favorite of mine “Blame it on Christmas.”
They’re so singing “Mistress for Christmas” by AC/DC in that first cell.
This song is so ridiculous. http://youtu.be/e3VenjIIpgY
@wil a big second on fairytale of new york. one of my favorite songs, not just a favorite christman song. another one i like a lot is oi to the world by the vandals.
Two of my favorite Christmas songs aren’t actually songs, but skits – Cheech & Chong’s “Santa Claus & His Old Lady”, and Stan Freberg’s “Green Chri$tma$”, which is more like a mini-musical.
On the other hand, I absolutely cannot abide Denny Brownlee’s butchery (as Seymour Swine) of “Blue Christmas”.
Anybody remember Pogo’s Christmas carol?
Deck us all with Boston Charlie,
Walla Walla, Wash., an’ Kalamazoo!
Nora’s freezin’ on the trolley,
Swaller dollar cauliflower alley-garoo!
Don’t we know archaic barrel
Lullaby Lilla Boy, Louisville Lou?
Trolley Molly don’t love Harold,
Boola boola Pensacoola hullabaloo!
Bark us all bow-wows of folly,
Polly wolly cracker ‘n’ too-da-loo!
Donkey Bonny brays a carol,
Antelope Cantaloupe, ‘lope with you!
Hunky Dory’s pop is lolly gaggin’ on the wagon,
Willy, folly go through!
Chollie’s collie barks at Barrow,
Harum scarum five alarm bung-a-loo!
Dunk us all in bowls of barley,
Hinky dinky dink an’ polly voo!
Chilly Filly’s name is Chollie,
Chollie Filly’s jolly chilly view halloo!
Bark us all bow-wows of folly,
Double-bubble, toyland trouble! Woof, woof, woof!
Tizzy seas on melon collie!
Dibble-dabble, scribble-scrabble! Goof, goof, goof!
Favorite Christmas song? John McCutcheon’s “Christmas In The Trenches”, about the 1914 unofficial truce during World War I among the soldiers on all sides. That unofficial truce irritated the all the generals to no end.
McCutcheon sings, “the question haunted every man who lived that wondrous night; ‘whose family have I fixed within my sight?'”
That song, more than any other I have ever heard, speaks to the absolute idiocy of war.

I should put in my favourite, which is the Barenaked Ladies version of Jingle Bells. First half is nice and spacey and kind of sad…and the second half is a riot where they sing the classic “Batmobile lost a wheel” line. 🙂
Jack… you rocker, you… Is he ACTUALLY singing? I get every fourth word.
Anatman… nothing says Christmas like a song from Vandals.
uwg… Yah… ha ha… funny songs… THe “Twelve Pains of Christmas” still cracks me up.
M. Lonie…. OH yay! I’ve never seen that! I be there was a nice illustration with that! It makes me think of the Calvin & Hobbes Christmas toons… classic!
qka (hello!) … I do love that story. It is mirrored in the Snoopy Christmas Story of the Red Baron. I have this album and it is listened to every Christmas… The Royal Guardsmen did the songs and it is quite charming in a 60’s bubblegum pop sort of way. BUt I grew up with this album and love it to this day.
William… ooo, I like the Barenaked Ladies! I will hunt that up! Are they still around? “One Week” is still a fav.(just checked, they ARE still around… and touring Canada next year)…nice.
uwg,
Since you like Freberg’s piece, you might enjoy Tom Lehrer’s A Christmas Carol.
Beetles… I love Tom Lehrer’s Xmas Carol! Classic!
BeetlesBane, I am a Lehrer lunatic. One of the finest lyricists to ever walk the earth.
Indeed, they are still around, though Steven Page (one of the lead singers for the band) has left for solo work. But yeah, still good stuff.
uwg… agreed! Why don’t we have that kind of clever anymore?
wmcduff… YES! and “Odds Are… ” is my new favorite song! The video is awesome! Zombies… dinosaurs… yes!
