Don’t many “incidents” come from a keg of beer and a road trip?
“My mother’s sister” and not “Aunt”… not the most tightly knit family, I’m guessing. And I don’t suppose there’s a whole lot to do while in Kansas, other than drive through it while drinking. Heavily.
WAIT KIDS! I do NOT condone drinking while driving! Much better to check in at a motel in Kansas, get drunk, get preggers, wake up with a horrible hangover and no memory, then…
WAIT KIDS! I do NOT condone road trips to Kansas!
Steal candy and kick puppies. Methinks Grace is aware of her rep. Maybe she secretly works at the SPCA or something but wants to look tough?
I’m not sure “mother’s sister” rather than “aunt” indicates a poorly knit family, as you suppose. It’s a more exact specification, removing father’s sister, mother’s brother’s wife and father’s brother’s wife from consideration.
Yepp, it’s well known that kegs of beer can lead to “new and interesting” decisionmaking .
Never been to Kansas so I don’t know about that part of the world, but the combination seems lethal.
I was inclined to wonder (as I do) just what made Grace this way, but William’s conjecture does make an interesting point: a show of invulnerability. I had an employer who used similar techniques (though I usually found a way to inadvertently find her weak points :()
Pete: As well you shouldn’t! Kansas… I have my reasons… *all you folkses from Kansas, please close your ears* …I have a saying “no good can come from Kansas.”
One: there’s friggin’ tornadoes there! (get thee back, tornadoes!)
Second: every time I go thru Kansas, something bad happens… most notably, there was the obnoxious winter storm at the end of ’06 resulting in an unexpected 4 day stay in Colby (a glorified truck stop of a town) over New Year’s… did I mention Kansas is dry on Sundays…? Guess when New Year’s fell.
One would be correct to assume that the family isn’t close… for reasons I won’t go into. But yes, Jasse, kegs of beer make for HORRIBLE decision-making…. not that I know personally… I prefer the other intoxicants.
I think W.M. is on the right track. Grace’s statement of malevolent intent belies a sarcastic, self-depreciating streak. I recognize her style, since I amuse myself with it sometimes. Not something I’m proud of, mind you…
Also, I know lots of people from states where they regularly have blizzards, tornados, devastating floods, etc., who would never dream of even visiting California, because we have EARTHQUAKES! EARTHQUAKES! OMG OMG OMG!!!!
But yes, Jasse, kegs of beer make for HORRIBLE decision-making…. not that I know personally… I prefer the other intoxicants.
What is your preference ??? Paint fumes maybe 😉
actually, grace, I think I just got the whole story in one sentence.
Precisely, Jasse… paint fumes.
