Yak Sweater
There is such a thing… a yak and hemp sweater… I was overjoyed that the interwebbing could provide me with such a gem of an item. I search “free-trade sweater” and ka-bing! Yak-hemp sweater for you ma’am.
I bet Yak furrings is sooooo warm. And gosh darn, I didn’t know that hemp could grow in so many places! … thank you, wikipedia.
Well, at least as long as it doesn’t smell like a Yak anymore…. 😆
Brig, it IS a “weed”, you know!
Alright, fine, I’ll be the guy who DOESN’T make a pot joke……….wait is that yak looking at him?
also, as a vegetarian, wouldnt BB be against getting her husband a sweater made from an animal? I don’t really mean to nitpick, it just seems out of character, although admittedly I don’t know your characters as well as you do.
I find it interesting that B.B. would get an animal sweater, I believe yak is an animal right?
Not relevant to the strip but I thought I should let you know that your 6 cent ad on cross hare is doing well for you, I found your site last week, immediately read all of the archives (on both sites) and I’m thinking about buying stuff (though somewhat like Randie, a little on the poor side).
Sillies… Beebs would never buy a sweater in which a yak was sacrificed… only shaved… like wool. So you are, indeed, correct! And the Yak that is on Leroy’s shoulders is still alive… he is looking at Leroy… so all is well. Perhaps I should have made that more obvious…. say with a Yak grunt… or whatever they do. And yes… let the pot jokes commence.
Luemas, Since it isn’t called “Yak-hide,” presumably the yak is shorn rather than killed and skinned.
Welcome Kara (ProfLover)… to Squid Row. Thanks for dropping a letter from whence you came. I am glad you have enjoyed reading through! Smiles upon you!
Shorn! Yes, BeetlesBane… that’s the right word!
I kind of want one now…Gosh, I’m such a hippie. If there’s such a thing as reincarnation I used to be one and got hit by a VW bus.
I hope they washed it first, I’ve learned from nature shows that yaks have a very unique odour.
When they make yarn, the wool(or whatever they call the Yak’s fur) is carded, separating the fiber from the yucky stuff that gets in it. That is how people usually do it if they cannot take it to some factory where who knows how it is done. And I am pretty sure that they would wash the Yak before sheering it. There is a girl at my school that spins her own yarn. It is very interesting.
One of my friends is a CRAZY good knitter and I’ve actually gotten to handle a skein of yak fiber yarn. It’s ridiculously soft and has been processed so much it doesn’t smell like yak anymore. It also apparently is really warm and felts really well, too.
