Xmas Vespid
I remember a number of Christmases where I could not afford to travel to my family. Thankfully, my family got me home for Christmas.
In Randie’s case… Thank goodness for “Magic Vespids” that can get you there… in spirit.

Awwww! 🙂
Listen my children and you shall hear, of the midnight ride of Randie Revere.
On the 19th of Dec. in 2010, we will long remember this famous day and year, of the midnight ride of Randie Revere.
She said to Harold, “It’s cold in here! Let’s take a midnight ride and find us some cheer!
One if by Vespid, two if by bus. With any luck, the lights will be with us.
Dressed up well, we’ll go arm-in-arm, we shall leave here and go someplace warm.”
Ride they did without a care, that someone might spy, stop and stare.
The roar of the tiny engine was somewhat alarming, but her maniacle laugh was really quite charming.
Good Night!
Joe, is your nickname “McGonagall” by any chance?
Mark, running away like the Minotaur of the Apocalypse is coming after him…
Astrigali,
I had the movie: The Great McGonagall on Betamax. It starred Spike Milligan. That was an odd, but very funny movie.
I love it!
I’m big on being with my family at Christmas, too. I’d forgo every other present and treat for it.
Brig: Apologies for dominating today’s comments!
Joe: I love Spike Milligan, but if you’re not familiar with the real William McGonagall, you really should check him out on Wikipedia – and make sure you check out his iconic work, “The Tay Bridge Disaster” 🙂
Astrigali,
Are you familiar with “Paul Revere’s Ride”? It wasn’t easy to adapt. And at 1:30 in the blinkin’ AM is a poor time to be writing prose.
Yay for a shoutout for Ohio – the Rodney Dangerfield of states.
I hear ya, Brig…I’ve had to miss a number of birthdays and holidays simply because I could not afford to travel back home. At least your heart is in the right place.
…and hey, who couldn’t use a flying Vespid? And it’s RED, all the better to guide Santa’s sleigh!
ohio is the rodney dangerfield of the states? and all this time i thought it was iowa.
The Magic Vespid takes Randie to places she simply cannot go… due to her financial situation…. such as Paris… and Ohio. Why Ohio? That’s where Randie’s mom lives… and so does my mom. Ohio, the Buckeye State… having lived there very briefly, and having family there, I feel it is my duty to lampoon it a bit. Do you know how many cartoonists have lived or are from Ohio… ? A ridiculous number. I think it’s because you have to have a sense of humor to live there. Mr. Watterson is from Ohio.
Randie’s Magic Vespid seems to change color though… but Red seemed the right color for this time of year.
Joe… I was amused by your ditty… and liked the Paul Revere bit. I even learned something… about Scottish poetry (or rather poor Scottish poets). Thanks for learning me, Astragali.
Joe, I’m sorry you thought I was castigating you… that wasn’t the intention at all… I can safely say that your Randie Revere poem was enjoyable – unlike some of my stuff, which has been utterly doggerel (though still not as bad as old WMcG).
Here’s another vespid for you! http://eventingnation.com/home/2010/12/an-eventing-nation-christmas.html
That’s awesome, JC! I am so posting that! Thanks!
