I am fortunate enough to have a resident expert on this very topic on staff. My sister is a itty-bitty baby Neonatal Intensive Care Unit nurse… and she gave me the rundown.
Today’s comic is a bit of a… um… lie. Portland actually has a NICU equipped with a longterm care facility for preemies… and while fictional Squid Row city Cypress City is equipped, Monterey and Salinas are not. But hey, I’m paid to make stuff up.
The fight that is life is always one worth fighting, though we of mortal bent inevitably lose. It is not the victory we must strive for, but rather the battle itself that we can claim is worthy.
“Good philosophy, see good in bad, I like” ~~~ character whose name was never given that I know of, in Fifth Element
Her shortened name was Lulu, or Lula…the full pronunciation, which comes in the priest’s apartment, goes by very quickly and I didn’t catch it.
Premature babies unite! I was 6 weeks early and I’ve heard some scary stories of my infancy. I wouldn’t want anyone to go through this.
Maybe Leroy can stay at the Ronald McDonald House while B.B. is recovering in hospital. I expect she will be discharged way earlier than the baby and they can both stay there while the baby gets stronger and biger before they can take him or her home.
I wanted to say a special thank you to Gramy Pasaha Kitty for sharing her amazing dream. That was very powerful and gave me chills. Thank you for bringing sunshine 🙂
Also thank you to all the squiddies that kept my cousin Rebecca in their thoughts and prayers. Yesterday was the first time she didn’t get sick from her treatments and only had minor nauzea and she was able to eat. The Doctor said she gained 1.5 lbs which is great as she lost a bit of weight with all the being sick and not really feeling up to eating. Sorry a bit TMI but thank you guys!
Much love!
Always a good thing to have expert advice to tap, even if it’s just to get more details about how a program works. Thankfully I have many friends and immediate family who are health industry professionals that don’t mind my occaisional inquiry and advice seeking. Hope your cousin is continuing to do better!
Our Barbara was 17 oz. the smallest survivor of LDS Hospital at the time in Salt Lake City,Utah. She was the size of a Barbie doll length wise and we have a picture of her compared to a dollar bill. She was 22 weeks gestational, born 4 months early. Every day the doctors would remind us that she would not live more than a day, week, month. We showed them. She is now 23, loves to sing and play the wii. She has the mind of a 4 year old.
Interesting fact. She would often kick and flay her arms when she was in the hospital. She would calm down when she heard our voices. We made a tape for her of the family singing and the nurses would play that when she got restless. Some say that this age they are just cells, not life. Cells dont recognize individuals voices.
Trev… Life, being precious, is worth fighting for. We often have to remind ourselves of that… when the doldrums hit. But we really ought to celebrate life more… new lives being born… and lives passing away.
Ep… I’m glad there’s improvement in Rebecca’s camp. This is good. We’ll keep pulling for her! Go Rebecca! Smiles and hugs her way! Keep Uplifting one another!
Jon… Esther was a huge help when my Dad was ill. She could figure out all the meds he was on and when to take them and which shouldn’t be taken together. She is all nurse-y and helpful… she’s a good ‘un.
Ron… 17 oz! Holy Bananas! THat puts it into perspective with the Barbie doll as well. Good on her for beating the odds! SHe’s a survivor! And it’s no wonder she likes to sing… she had the family singing to her as a tiny person!
Was about to say “I’m pretty sure Doernbecher Children’s Hospital is so equipped…”
