Towel Day
I am not a huge HG to the Universe fan… But I certainly appreciate the clever writing… and personally, I agree with the notion of carrying around a towel with you wherever you go… you may need one to sit upon… or wipe something… or some such activity.
I met Douglas Adams at a local book store, the year before he died. I bought the only thing of his that I didn’t have. It was a copy of the Hitch Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy Radio Scripts and asked him to sign it before I left. At the time, he was trying to sell the computer game: “Starship Titanic”, but I needed to go to work and couldn’t wait. I really wish I had more time to talk to him.
Hitchhikers guide was so lovely, weird, funny and just plain odd that it appealed to a wide audience…made fun of everyone, and in clever ways, while telling a most unexpected story. I have a vinyl copy of the old radio show, with a rubber duck on the cover.
Oh, and a towel.
If you spend a lot of time around seagulls, you might want to wear a bathrobe…like Arthur Dent.
but, but, but, yesterday was towel day!
the guide taught me all I needed to know about earth…
…mostly harmless…
My mother was once working out a problem on the board for her chemistry class. Its answer was 42. She said, the Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe and Everything. Every kid in the class but one went Huh? and he gasped and declared, A literate teacher.
Joe… How fortunate for you to have met such a legend… And to have acquired a signature. Is it framed in your living room?
Judy… A towel with yer name on it, even!!!
Yat… Ha, if you live at the ocean… You must be prepared! … At least a poncho… Like the rain gear kind….
Fire dome… Yes, yesterday was towel day… But I wanted a Sunday format fore the toon… So I didn’t say WHEN Ryan told her to always have a towel (presumably yesterday, and probably more than once).
Mary… The “inside” outside joke fell on deaf ears… So sad… And it was a good’un. At least yer mom caught it.
You WOULD post this cartoon today, when all of the diodes on the left side of my body ache. Now would you like me to go sit in the corner and rust or should I just collapse in a pile right here? Life…don’t talk to me about LIFE…
