Tourist Season
Okay, I am absolutely fine with tourists. I live in a touristy place. They come from all over to visit Cannery Row, and the gorgeous Monterey Bay and to plop money down at restaurants and cheesy t-shirt shops. And right now, we are in the swing of high-tourist season… little do they know though, that the prettiest time of the year to visit is in Sept/Oct/Nov. Oops… cat’s outta the bag.
Nice! I would *love* to be one of those tourists visiting Cannery Row :D!
Oh P.S., why is it extra pretty in the fall?
Ok, Meghan, here’s why: Monterey is located very close to the mouth of the Salinas Valley, through which the Salinas River flows from south to north. The Salinas Valley’s southern end has what we call “Valley heat”, meaning it is far enough away from the cool coast to get really hot in summer. The hot air at the south end of the Valley rises, which pulls in the cooler, moist air from the ocean. This creates overcast in the valley and cooler, windier temps at the coast. This is also known as “on-shore flow”. In the fall, the interior valley is cooler, and the beach area is warmer, creating off-shore flow, which moves the cooler air out to sea, leaving the beach area warm and sunny. And that’s your meteorology lesson for the day.
If it”s tourist season, why can’t we shoot them?
that’s an awesome picture, randie! and you, of course 😉 the tourists remind me of ice cream, or the old fashioned sunscreen that came in colors.
Nice explanation of our weather patterns, Jude!
Randie thanks you Flo, for the compliment on her painting.
Jude- Descriptive! Sounds lovely, I might consider visiting someday :).
Kona: In this age of recession and “staycations”, they’re probably an endangered species anyway…
Kona,
Check Mr E Fudd’s experiences during “Rabbit Season” and “Duck Season”.
Jude : Beside the weather, is there something else that can attract tourists there, like a special spot or a monument ?
Brig : You gonna be one of them soon ! Have a good trip. It’s a shame we cannot meet each other. And talking about weather : it’s getting really hot lately in Paris. Prepare your stuff in accordance …
