Taco Hut Ode
Apparently, Taco Hut has unleashed the writer in Ryan!
It’s funny how we get attached to food establishments. I have the same fondness for a fresh-mex place called La Salsa… there are none in my general area. So whenever I visit SoCal… I can’t pass up an opportunity to scarf on their amazing chips and salsa and their bean, cheese & chicken burrito! Argghhh… Now I want La Salsa! DANG IT!
In Ventura, there is a little place on Ventura Avenue called “Johnie’s” Best green chili burritos ever. Muy Sabroso.
I’m the same way with In-n-Out Burger.
Darn living in the Midwest. DARN IT ALL!!!
Well, you’ve already seen my Beer Ditty. On hot summer days like today…
Oh DANG! I work tonight!
It’s the dust from the pinatas that give Mexican food it’s killer taste.
Mi almuerzo es muy delicioso, la pinata es muy bueno! Uno mas caliente burrito, La quenta por fvavor!….or something like that.
When I was in London I missed Dr. Pepper terribly. On the other hand, it was everywhere in Tokyo, in all the Coke machines. Make of that what you will.
Just sayin’–SONIC! There’s hardly none of them in the Pac Northwest and I grew up with them in the south. The closest one to us right now is a two hour drive–and worth every minute. YUM!!!
Luemas… I’ve heard this before…. people lamenting In/out… They are few and far between here on the Central Coast and folks will drive for miles to get to THE one round here.
Joe… yah… treat yerself to a “Dos Icky’s” later…
Jack… I am a fan of the burritos… AND I just found a new Mexican Food Place that is actually an old Mexican Place I used to visit in Pacific Grove… they have a location in Salinas now! Michael’s is just rocking my taste buds!
Ruth… I think I had Sonic a REAL long time ago (when I lived in SoCal)… they were newish to the area. Is there a favorite thing you order all the time?
Brad… When I was in Paris, they pretty much had Coke & Diet Coke… (zat’s it) and they served them in little thin glasses. Their serving sizes are much smaller there (not really a bad thing). And they serve their Diet Coke with a lemon.
And I want Wegman’s out here, but that’s not gonna happen, either. I’d be thrilled if we could just get Trader Moe’s in Salinas (or any bookstore!)
There are two restaurants I always visit when I’m in Seattle, places I frequented when I lived there, and miss going to now that I live elsewhere. One is a Greek restaurant called the Continental Pastry Shop. Try the Athenian Plate for a variety of dishes. Be sure to get the Avgolemono (egg-lemon with rice) soup. The other is a Chinese restaurant where you can get mouth-watering Dim Sum during the morning and afternoon. It is called The House of Hong. Dim Sum means “swallowing clouds” and ot is Chinese finger food. Most of the appetizers at Chinese resaurants come from the Dim Sum cuisine. The original idea behind Dim Sum is that it is served in a tea house (no rice served) where men of leisure, members of the scholar gentry, will spend the day snacking on Dim Sum and discussing art, philosophy, and literature in a highly cultured way. I recommend both restaurants if you visit Seattle. Ivar’s seafood restaurants are also good, if your taste runs to that sort of thing. Try the Viking Soup.
Brig,
If you are in France you are supposed to drink wine, not Diet Coke. It is like a syllogism: You are in France. The drink of France is wine. Therefore you will drink wine. QED. The only exception is Normandy, where you are allowed to drink cider and calvados.
Shoulda told me I could have brought you some. At least some salsa. The burrito probably wouldn’t have survived the trip up.
Michael… OH! Those places sound wonderful… I love Greek food! And Viking Soup makes me think in toon… “Waiter! There’s a helmet in my soup!”
… and as far as the wine goes…. I like to drink wine in the evening… so that leaves lunch uncovered… whilst in the south of France, Pastis is their drink and to have that in the early afternoon is completely acceptable! and encouraged! It goes down so easy! … and I have had Calvados! OHHHH, that’s nice!
AMEN! Eof O… I want a Trader’s and books! Honestly, why have we NO bookstore?!! If I had more cashflow…. I’d open one on Main in Oldtown!
Rob… OH, MAN! But it’s the burrito that makes me happy… bean, cheese and chicken… sigh.
Ivar’s Viking Soup is a cream seafood soup with jal;ibut, salmon, and shrimp with potatoes. Scrumptious.
