Sunflower
Happy First Day of Summer!
This is the sunflower that crept up at our back fence. It just appeared one day… a sprout and harbinger of summer. It grew modestly and then one day… Bang it was yellow and lovely. I adore sunflowers… and not just because of Vincent… they are cheerful and sunny… and they make me smile. (to see a picture of said sunflower, see the Squid Row Flickr account)…
Brig: That is a gorgeous-looking sunflower π My mum used to grow them before she moved house, and she’d have three or four tall ones each year, with bees buzzing round them π
I love flowers and gardens, but I donβt do gardening except under duress. So any volunteer flowers like morning glories and sunflowers are welcome in my world.
How pretty! Sunflowers are cool, we don’t have a lot around here but you see the occasional one sticking out over somebody’s garden fence :). They make me feel a bit short, they can get so big!
I love when flowers land in weird little places like that! My sister, who lives on the seventh floor of an apartment building in a HUGE city, found a full-grown dandelion sticking out from a crack in the concrete. Sadly, she’s really allergic so the poor thing was plucked in its prime.
Brig, was the face on the sunflower deliberate? π
I would bet on that it was deliberate. ^^
…Happy Accident, Atragali. But as the welcome wagon to summer… there SHOULD be a happy face on the sunflower.
as a sidenote, I meant to put graffiti on the fence. Oh well.
Volunteer flowers are the best! Unexpected and often cheerful. Volunteer weeds, not so much.
