Yez zee fountain Saint-michel is one of the great sights zat I remember from Paris.
Pete, meybe a painting of a dish of escargot and french bread as well!
stick,
Shakespeare and Company was the first English language bookstore in Paris, founded in the 1919. It was, and still is, a meeting place for English speakers living in or visiting the city, and is a delightfully ancient, cool, eclectic, disorganized, bohemian fabulous place.
Thanks for the clarification. The comic does not make it clear that Shakespeare and Company was, and is, a bookstore, resulting in a whole lot of confusion.
Pete… You won’t get “smacked” … you’ll get *whacked*!!!!
Squid… ah, yez… zat fountain is probably my most favorite one in Paris… I say probably because there are arrondissements that I’ve not been to yet.
stick…. Google is our friend.
If you are a Frenchman who has an affinity for things American, you would find Shakespeare and Company intriguing. Just as France is a wonderful mystery to me, America is a wonderful mystery (or would have been) to Jacques (after all, he is living in America, now). I find myself drawn to the international sections in bookshops now and wouldn’t mind living in France to be sure.
…. and…. I would hope that there are things, that readers would enjoy looking up, like “le feu est verte!”
If Shakespeare was found to be French… the whole of England would collapse. They take The Bard very seriously.
Jude… merci. Really? you find Shakespeare & Co. disorganized? (ha ha ha)
If Shakespeare were French, at the very least they would have to disown him – he did write a play that climxed on St Crispin’s Day (Oct 25 for those without either Google or a Saint’s Day calendar)
Sorry for the silence, fellows, was out of town on an unplanned emergency trip. Went to bed just before 3pm saturday (yeah I said *PM*, I’m a night shifter, don’t judge), then woke up at 5pm to go yell at the person making a racket outside my window …
… only to find out it was my stepmom pounding on my window to wake me up because I always silence my phone when I sleep (damned telemarketers) … and they’ve been trying to call me to tell my my wife was in a car wreck.
Yeah, it’s been one of those weeks. Drive 10 hours to where she was at with only 2 hours sleep. Kinda surprised there wasn’t two wrecks, same day.
No worries though. Her car was totalled, but thank God for modern technology – she made it out alive, thanks to seat belts and air bags, even though she hit the other car at a brisk 65 mph (guy thought he could turn left with a car coming at him on a highway … brilliant, I tells ya!).
Brought her home (she was down in OK for a contract, was driving up to see her daughter and take her grandson to a movie when all this happened), she’s on layoff til the doctor says she can drive and can go back to work. Nothing broken, but some really serious bruises and paramedics say she had a full-body whiplash which explains the stiff back and neck.
Grey… Woah! First off… lemmie say I’m sorry for all that you mentioned above! Wow… BUT You are most fortunate that things weren’t worse! THAT is a blessing! I’m so glad that your wife is not broken… just bruised! You and your wife are fine and that is soooo important. (I say you, because losing a loved one messes up your head and heart).
I send you my best wishes for your wife’s full recovery and…. when she’s ready… hug her tight.
Where’s the painting of the french fries go?
Sorry! SORRY!! Please don’t smack me…

He’s a Frenchman wanting to recreate France and set the mood for his cafe with section devoted to… Shakespeare???
Okay, maybe not such a stretch.
According to this BBC report, Shakespeare was French.

Hold the presses. This guy discovered Huckleberry Finn from a Shakespearean troupe? What sort of coffee is he quaffing?
btw: That BBC News audio recording of Shakespeare being French (above) was an April Fool’s Day prank.

So if you thought your week was rough … heh.

Fishing Cat Street? That sounds adorable.
Loop! It’s a VERY narrow street… the narrowest in Paris!
