Leo… Ha! Exactly! By Randie’s face, I’d say maybe.
Chug… then there’s Wal-Fart who takes up a collection for their employees. Sigh… that was my pessimistic thought… hmmm…. I need a counter balance good thought… When I worked for Palace Art up in Capitola, we, as employees, were made to feel valued. It’s a family run business run by really nice folks. We received Xmas bonuses every year, sometimes cash, sometimes gift certificates… but I always felt like I was a valued employee and part of the Palace Family.(This was the inspiration for this toon, in fact).
Do you have a company you have worked for where they appreciated you and treated you well? esp. at Christmas…
While in France, we wanted to have dinner at a nice restaurant, but as Americans, we were out early in the evening. We went in and were told that the staff was eating their dinner (together) and that they would open in an hour. I like that they feed their workers (not only for nourishment but to KNOW what they were serving)… to work at a restaurant in France is a VERY different profession than here in America. It is a career, not something you do while you are on your way to a different career.
I’ve been fortunate enough to work for a couple different companies who truly appreciated their employees, over the course of my career. They’re very nice counterpoints to those companies who consider their employees to be a “resource.”
I worked for a company that needed me to travel to Hong Kong over the holidays to handle an issue that arose. So they also paid for my wife to go too – business class airfare (that alone was > $4000) and no questions asked on my meals expenses. Of course the hotel room was already paid for, but still, it was appreciated.
And my wife had a great time. The only drawback was I had limited availability to share it.
I’m actually quite fond of my current job. It’s a fairly big company, but the culture is very ‘we’re in this together’. People on teams get to weigh in before a new person is hired, and while it’s hectic and stressful, I don’t feel like I’m wasting my time and effort.
Palace Arts in Capitola? WoW! I kept wondering why this strip was reminding me of that, I use to go in there for some paltry supplies when I first stooped at the camera store 2 doors down.
b. flipper… It is good to have that history… many people I know don’t feel valued at work… and are rather miserable because of it.
qka… Sounds like they really put you up nice-like. Think of how differently that trip COULD have been…
Chug… yay! It makes a HUGE difference when “we’re in this together!” is the motto… rather than ” we can replace you at any time because people want jobs and you are expendable.” Morale is a wonderful thing.
Scott… more yay… and if you had come in between 1997 and 2004, you might have seen me! I hope you had a pleasant experience shopping at Good ol’ Palace!
I am a public school teacher. I have never received a bonus, a card, or a gift from the district where I work. The students, on the other hand, have always made me feel very special at Christmas. THEY are the reason I go to work each day. And, of course, the PTA always treats us to wonderful homemade cookies!!
Nice to work for a place that appreciates you, I imagine.
Never MIND Art Supplies, is it enough for a Down Payment on a Vespid?
All companies SAY they care about their employees. Only a few actually do.
Legacy… Do you not feel appreciated?

Mayhaps I saw you. It’s good to have Family local stores verses the box store otherworlders.
