Stevenson
There is, indeed, a Stevenson House here in Monterey. And the facts in the strip are true. Ryan, being an enthusiast of Mr. Stevenson, would, of course, volunteer his time as a docent there!

They said “Fanny”. Heh-heh, heh-heh.
When did 1879 fall?
Right after 1878.
Joe: It put up a staunch fight, but the opposition was just too powerful…
Why don’t parents name their kids Fanny anymore? Such a lovely name…
Fanny: Short for Francis or Francine. Go right ahead. How d’you think it would work out for little Fanny in the first grade?
I haven’t been to the Stevenson house, but I was at the log cabin on Jackass Hill in Calaveras county that Mark Twain wintered in. (And was the basis for his early novel, Roughing It) It was just outside Angels Camp, the town where Twain first heard – and then recorded and retold – the story of “The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County”.
That’s an area I’ve not yet been to, Pete. It needs to be on my list of places to see….
Michael…. first grade Fanny? She says…. MY NAME IS FRANCINE! (but that’s not what Grammy calls her).
I love R.L. Stevenson! Kidnapped and the Black Arrow are among my favorite books!
