That counts for Steampunk, too. 🙂 The inner workings of old wind up clocks, cleaned and either polished or distressed. Refitting the gears onto the outside of a cigar box, so that they turn and engage.
Altoid tins can undergo some very distinctive changes – remove the paint, then photo etch. Add a cameo from a thriftshop….
I did an odd bit of costuming with a metal wrist splint, found in a basement. And copper plating can be done cheap….
Grump… I love the Steampunk thing! So nifty… I love that 1940’s future-look. Goggles make me happy for some reason. And I LOVE little metal boxes… containers and weirdo things other peoples probably wouldn’t collect. Collage/construction is such a beautiful thing!
Squid… clever uses… yes… I hate throwing USEFUL things away… and yes, I have been called a pack rat. I prefer the term pack-mouse (they’re cuter).
If you’re going to do that, just make sure you get on making it into art immediately. I’ve accumulated a lot of “found objects” worthy of being made into art, only to leave them in a pile when I never got around to making those masterpieces I imagined.
But hey, it’s like artists are procrastinators or anything, riiiiight?
Heh, for some procrastination IS an art! (My steampunk plague doctor Hallowe’en costume was only two years after I planned it…. But then I wore it two years in a row to make up lost time….)

Dada… I’m saying! It’s a form of procrastination for certain… I will make that cool thing… someday.
