Good job, Grace, in letting Mel keep her job. There’s a lesson learned here, and perhaps two.
As a former owner with an employee, I see it as exactly that. A good employee who had to learn another lesson. Why fire them because they had a bad experience that they learned from. If it happens again, well… there’s less chance of keeping the job. But for the “first offense”, I’m of the opinion that they’ll be a BETTER employee, having survived that offense and discovering their boss isn’t a heartless cog in the world of business.
Pete: Grace, as the night shift manager, isn’t the only one with a say in the matter…BUT it is certain that she has put in a good word on Mel’s part. I don’t think many will remember, but when Mel first came on board, Grace is talking to Twinkie and reveals that Mel is part of a work program that helps recovery people get work. So there’s a level of forgiveness built in.
… and clearly, you understand the nature of having employees and being sympathetic to their situations.
RN… you noticed! I think that could be the previous night shift managers…?

brig…I had an uncle who kept a skull on his shelf. Me? I never had the nerve…
Glad a job firing didn’t add to the hangover. Don’t give up the sobriety fight. Here’s to teetotalers!
i like how you have been developing grace’s personhood 🙂
