Erk, tough question. What one thing would be best? World peace; continuous SF team wins (49ers in superbowls and Giants at world series’) for all eternity; cancelling out the U.S. national debt; unyielding universal global love of the much criticized domineering conceited overbearing resource consuming cowboy country that is America; complete rain forest restoration; depleated o-zone replenishment; to relive my youth knowing what I know now; the creation of a real Jurassic Park; a single wish of having ten extra wishes fulfilled; having X-men powers…all of them; Democrats and Republicans agreeing on everything. Which one? I suppose financial stability for all, along with good teeth and good hair, if I can add on.
So, what’s the flying “P” mug on Randie’s shirt about?
I think the question should be: “If you could bring to life a fictional character(not the actor) from a book, play, TV show or movie, who would that be?”
Stick… if we all chose one of your many ideas there as our “one magical endeavor”… the world would be a much better place. And thanks… chopsticks make excellent wands… the core is… uh… Aspen wood with stains of Kung Pao Chicken.
The “Flying P” (which has been in a few prior toons as well) is in honor of a regular coffee cup filler. I raise my decaf americano to ya! And you know who you are!
Joe: Really? Gilligan? Ha! hmmmm…. which one? There’s so many! Fictional character… hmmm… Batman? no, no… too brood-y… uh… Mrs. Peel? John Steed? hmmm…. so she can do fake Karate… and he can drink toddies. Um… RANDIE SPRINGLEMEYER… no, I don’t need a clone… uh… Harold is already laying around. I give up!
Well, we took the boys out to see the Potter movie last night. Early this morning, to be precise. The Franklin Institute (http://www2.fi.edu/) had a party that started at 10:00pm and then the showing of the movie at 12:01am in their 2D IMAX theater.
The party was more of a 2 hour wait in line, though they did have a few nice things there, including Butter Beer (only about a B- for the recipe), and some “Magic with Science”, which would more appropriately be called “Fun With Liquid Nitrogen”. Both our younger boys were picked to participate in a demonstration. Ben dipped a flower into liquid nitrogen and then shattered it in his (thickly gloved) hand. Sam used the LN cannon, which hurled an empty plastic bottle across the room. They enjoyed it.
The move was a very satisfying ending to a terrific epic adventure. Lots of moments to cheer when this FINALLY happened or THAT person got their just desserts. And some sad points in the movie, too. (Hey, in a battle that size, not ALL the good guys live.) There were a LOT of questions answered and a very satisfying epilogue at the end. The movie picks up only minutes after Part One ends, so watching Part One just before seeing Part Two will add to the movie experience.
As for what one thing I’d do with magic… Being a long time role playing gamer, I know not to wish for too much. The bigger a thing you hope to get for free, the worse the ultimate consequences. I think perhaps I’d wish for all those in public office to have a respect for the office they hold and a genuine desire to work for the good of people.
Spill’s question was set up for Randie’s BFF wish and made for a good head scratcher.
As for Joe’s…hmm, what fictional character to make non-fictional?
Well, Winnie the Pooh is opening in theaters today…also.
And I love “The Tao of Pooh,” so…

Oh, and nice use of a chop stick wand, brig.

My choice?
GILLIGAN!
Toughie. I would probably use magic to bring my favorite comic book characters to life.

Winnie the Pooh.
brig… Happy that you like my SF Niners and Giants winning all future matches for all eternity.
Pete: I feel like you’re a Squid on the street … reporter from the front lines! It sounds like a good time was had by all! I can’t wait for tonight!
Stick: awww… Pooh bear… makes me think of a hunny pot…. mmm… snack time…
Magic for one thing? Who wouldn’t want to fly? Then I can hang with the Gulls as they, well, do what they do.
I would want the hourglass spell and move back in time whenever I stayed up too late.
