Spill Fav
It’s funny how when you are creating something, you tend to get attached. There are some drawings I just can’t part with. I did a painting in college called “Jazz Man” that I can’t seem to let go.
Spill, here, has a favorite tiki that she’s created. And she seems to have recognized that they’ve taken on a life of their own. I can just see her talking to them as she gave them features and paint.
And what’s so strange is, the creation that grabs you doesn’t SEEM like it would be “the one”, does it? I’ve a character or two in my universe that for some reason seem to resonate and I find myself caring for them more than the others. (And sometimes more than they deserve.)
I think that like love and justice, sometimes creativity is also blind.
Aww, is that why Glum Tiki is so glum? Did he figure out he’s not Spill’s favorite? …great, now I wanna give him a hug. Just promise me this isn’t going to turn into Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves (wow…that’s an obscure reference).
And Pete, I understand entirely. My comic was supposed to have a rotating cast, but…darn it, it’s just so FUN to visit and check in on some of those characters!
Angry tiki, Sad tiki…Happy tiki?
All the barflies of the the upcoming tiki lounge will have their own respective drunken idol to gravitate towards.
My greatest attachments seem to be my current characters and storylines. I can get really self absorbed into them. But I do relate to favorite characters that you want to give some free story rein to. As for letting go of past works. The ones for me, those don’t leave.
Pete… Yah, sometimes you find something in a character that you just can’t let go of. Mouse’s crush on Randie makes me fonder of him than I set out to be. And I am embracing Midge more.
Joe… Glum Tiki… I’m not sure as to why he’s so… glum. Perhaps Spill was sad when she created him. There should be a ridiculously happy tiki somewhere for balance, yah?
stick… and so Spill’s favorite tiki is…. wait and see. Drunken idols… I suppose it depends on how many Blue Hawaiians and or mai tais you’ve had.
Hopefully it’s a happy tiki, if that’s possible.
Anyone remember the singing Tikis from “Muppet Treasure Island”?
Well, I know Brig does…!
If someone…Spill, Karl…installed red lightbulbs in the angry tiki’s eyes he’d look even scarier.
Ah, flashing red eyes on an giant angry face in a dimly lit tiki bar in a Mai Tai-Scorpion haze.
Whew!
As for the moping glum tiki, blue lightbulbs in the eyes would fit the bill.
Aww.
Jack… when I originally conceived these guys, I thought of “hear no evil-see no evil…” and then thought better.
Dada… ooo, I missed that one.
stick. They would be eerie for sure. Scorpions are scary enough… being served “lit” and on fire.
