Ever know somebody who really livens up the office or work place? You look forward to seeing that person… they take out the drear at work… they add positive-ness to the environment. You know what they say… moods are contagious… and so this person lightens the mood. Squish was one of these persons… always cheerful… always Gung Ho.
I’m going through the same situation with my local hangout.
I couldn’t live near the Squid Row crew. I have a bad reaction to positive minded people, natural optimism, and healthy thinking. That said, having now bulldozed your old and new archives, I think I could like Ryan. He’s got the right level of snark, helpfulness, and intellect. Randie I could also handle simply because she lacks ‘healthy thinking’, being an artist. I also like her because she’s shared a lot of problems I’ve survived, and had so many problems I wish I’d had. Lived in a ricketty old house with no heat in winter? Check. Felt the sting of creative block? You have to be creative for that.
…… although if I did have to live near the gang, Randie might like me a lot. I’d spend a lot of my time punching Jimmy Chow and Maxamillian. Inflated ego is way worse than cheer.
Yat… Condolences…. Maybe you need to fun things up by pretending that person is still there… Maybe Ryan needs a “Flat Squish. ”
Lady Jen… Well, you certainly wouldn’t fare well around Enid. If you lived on Squid Row, the neighborhood might have its first “cereal killer”.. If Grace isn’t one already. You guys could be roomies!
In any case, I am glad you got to know the gang better… They are a fun group… Then again, I am biased. But Ryan is a good guy… You’d do alright to know such a fellow. He’d buy ya a coffee.
Hoorah for Jenn! I’d have never admitted it, but I hate Randie’s positive-thinking friends. I’d wilt under all that niceness. I’d probably thrive as Grace’s boyfriend. Squish is peppy, too, but she has tattoos… weirdness counts. (Me? I wouldn’t have a tat… but I loved the transfers I bought with pennies as a kid…. pirates and spaceships!)
kirwarface… Ha ha! Truth outed! I guess I have never really thought about the niceness in my comic. I, myself, am mostly up and cheery. I go through moods, as most artists do… but overall am a positive person. If you are ever DOWN, I would hope that you’d look to Squid Row to bring you up a notch or two.
for the record… pirates and spaceships are AWESOME! I went thru a pirate phase as a kid (way before it was cool) and I was a Star Wars fan back when Star Wars wasn’t, well, messed up. Oh, and I’m wearing a vintage looking Star Wars shirt now… with the Millennium Falcon on it.
It’s true, if one is down, Squid Row is a very cheerful comic! Ironically, “I Was Kidnapped by *** Pirates from Outer Space” just doesn’t do it for me! : )
