Ready To Go
Ever laugh in a serious situation? … or laugh when you ought to be crying?
When my dad died, I was sort of numb… but I kept finding all these funny things to laugh at… the fact that there was an exit sign right over his coffin at the funeral home made me laugh… at a most inappropriate time. Or was it?
The Irish have it right… throw a party to celebrate whomever passed. Yes the person will be missed but be happy to have known them. Soooo, are you subtly trying to say that for Ryan London might be heaven???
A very dear friend of mine once told me that by the time you get to a certain age all those personality flaws aren’t flaws anymore; they are just personality. You know this woman. Given your line of work a good flaw, me thinks
Dragon… Although Ryan has had his party… I don’t think that’s “the last we’ll see of him.” As far as London being Heaven… there’s William Blake’s song, Jerusalem that expresses a desire to build Jerusalem in England.
Redtail… she’s FULL of personality… ain’t she? I hardly think of her as flawed though. hee hee.
Well, they’ll always have the ocean to remind them…of course, it will be a different ocean for him, but hey, water’s water.
Gallows humor. Never quite appropriate, but we all do it. Kind of cathartic, I think.
Funny that of finding humor and laughing at events of sadness.
Seemed to be much of the going theme behind the M*A*S*H movie and tv series.
Also interesting is the exact opposite, crying at events of happiness.
Examples are weddings, graduations, happy movies, favorite songs, etc., etc.
I listened to an NPR report a ways back that asked people when they cried at movies.
Few of the reasons for water-works involved actually sad events, most were over happy ones.
Wow, put these two reactions together, with Randie being sad and Rye happy about the move, and…you’ll have Randie laughing chuckles of grief, as Ryan cries tears of joy.
I have often thought that the way to get thru difficult times was with humor. That’s why laughing in serious situations doesn’t seem all that odd to me… thus the cartoon.
M*A*S*H is a great example.
I think, Dada, that you are prophetic.
Shes got to laugh or she’d cry.
