Whenever I have trouble with dialogue (and with this strip, I did), I see if I can solve the problem by one: doing a toon with no dialogue… or two: creating a sight gag. I like how this one turned out.

she’s back from vegas?
One minute she’s in Vegas, and “poof” the next she’s in the office.
Cash flow’s that bad? I know some RL stores that are in about that shape for the season; I hope the Artbox gets luckier than I’m afraid they will.
Carol will look at that and say “Oh, balloons! How sweet!”
He’s going to put words in the her mouth?
Firedome & Squid…. poof… think “next day”… Vegas is only a short plane ride away.
Suzii… There’s a bit of foreboding here, yes?
Yat… Carol is that, mmm… aloof. Isn’t she?
Dada… ha ha…
Great use of voice balloons.
Ha. Carrying around voice balloons? This comic is gett’in more comicky. Next thing we know, Randie getting run-over will be flattened (comically not figuratively), and Carol will be able to miraculously jump in from Vegas with her face restored from its apparent beating (nice call, Dada).
Hmm, holiday hours? Hmm, anything more to sell? Seems like the locusts from yesterday may have already cleaned out the place. Here’s hoping the “Small Business Saturday” sale was not a going out of business clearance sale.
Ah, local businesses. It’s tough being sandwiched between the likes of “Black Friday” and “Cyber Monday.” Especially now with the dreaded “Fiscal Cliff” looming off in the distance.
THanks, Jack…
stick… comic-y is okay. I shopped small business Saturday here in Salinas. It was refreshing. I don’t do big malls… and am thankful the Del Monte Mall isn’t “mall-ish” … but I don’t think I’ll even get there this year. Keeping it more not big this year. But the Artbox may have a problem.
hi brig…
Yup, comic-y can be fun and amusing in its own right.
So far I haven’t done any shopping, not b-friday, s-b-saturday nor cyber-monday. Not even for myself, which tends to be the main reason folks brave the elements and each other for big screen bargains and the like.
Sadly, its seeming that the tides of fate (or are they winds?) are not lookin’ good for The Artbox. Bummer for Randie, too. Just as she’s been getting an itch to move up to a nicer apartment, her funds may soon be making a move too, but not in the up direction.
Holidays in the Artbox must be like holidays for all retail sales. It gets especially bad in toy stores, of course. A friend of mine, who worked in retail, has said that when he dies he is certain to go straight to Heaven. For seven years he managed a toy store. Seven Christmas seasons managing a toy store: he’s served his time in Hell.
Hmmmm…..
stick… your shopping situation is where I am usually at this time of year. Hanging around Judy is wearing off on me… she knows how to get things done… this year, I seem to be getting things done.
Michael… How bout it!? Toy places this time of year are a bit of torture (for workers), I’d imagine. Yikes!
Squid… indeed.
