Traveling abroad, to the creative mind, is a wonderful muse. Robert Louis Stevenson made a habit of travel… even in his poor health. It is said that Point Lobos, not far from Monterey, was the inspiration for the setting of Treasure Island.
Oh come on Ryan. Daddy Shufflebottom’s surely going to be able to fast track you into the family business or possibly sweetheart you into some sort of executive writing/editing gig with paychecks, bonuses, perks and all. So long as the RyEm train stays on track.
Brig, if Rye is bye-bye, your newly-redrawn heading may need some magic erasing.
Hmm. Or not? Hmm.
From just the information of the last week’s strips I can write a dozen story arcs on Ryan. And I’m not the creator. I’ll bet Brig has already come up stories ‘o plenty to keep Ryan an active member of Squid Row while also keeping the focus on Randie.
And Gus. 😉
Brig, I’ve been to Point Lobos, and I can absolutely see how it could inspire the story! I just wonder how they managed to avoid the poison oak . . .?
Doctorated?
When will Emily and Ryan leave? These things take time to arrange.
Maybe Randie should take part in a 12 step program for co-dependancy?
Joe,
Take time to arrange, you say? I had a housemate who was offered a sweet gig at UCSB (UC Santa Barbara). He would coach their girls volleyball team. In return he’d get free housing, free use of a car, have his grad school tuition fully-covered and still be paid. The catch was the position started in less than a week. He went from living in Sacramento to living in Santa Barbara in a matter of three days. I also had boss who was promoted from a SBC Yellow Pages regional director position to an sr. executive slot at Ameritech (an SBC (now AT&T) owned baby bell) in Chicago. High-up brass visited the Sacramento office mid week, gave him the promotion on a Thursday, and told him to show up for work the next Monday…in Chicago! He moved that weekend, with his wife staying back for a couple weeks to sell their house.
Also, can you really see Randie all religiousized by a 12 stepped conversion program?
stick,
Don’t forget that Emily applied for this a year ago. It could be that Emily doesn’t want Ryan to have time to think about this.
I’ve done the “We’ve volunteered you to be transfered to… Be ready to leave by the end of the week.”
A 12 step self-help program is not necessarily run by a church.
Hi Joe,
You’re right 12 steppers aren’t necessarily run by churches, but from what I have heard, they do involve recognizing the existance of and connecting to a higher-power/god, prayers, acts of absolution, contritian, and the like. Basically, they are run as churches.
Plus, after Brig came up with doctorated, I couldn’t help but follow with religiousized. smile
Hi all… again… issues with internet. (Don’t get me started on AT&T).
The answers to your questions will come in due time.
The twelve step program was started by a Christian, if I remember correctly… but the use of “a higher power” is used instead of God.
I find that when moving, there’s all those little details. I imagine that they can happen before or after the move… But I like to plan things out some. I like keeping those ducks in a row as best I can. My last move was pretty smooth.
