Played Out
Sketchbooks are like visual diaries… you put down thoughts and ideas and scribbles of people at the cafe or whatever… and often your sketchbook picks up all the garbage that rolls around in your head. I try not to edit myself as far as the sketchbook goes… but I often find myself wondering if someone should find this… (meaning I’ve lost the dang thing!)
Re: Sketchbook.
That’s the same with me and the stories I write. I get an idea that’s good for a few pages or chapters, then… SQUIRREL!!
What? Huh? There goes my ADD again. Most of what I’ve written is on my blog by now. Except for a couple of things that I’d like to expand into something I can sell.
An example of my ADD and inattention to detail, is that I just realized that Randie and Spill have three fingers on each hand. It’s probably something that’s been there all along, but so many comic artists do that, it just doesn’t stand out anymore.
Oh, well. Time to go to bed.
G’Nite all!
Ah, yes, sketchbooks and ADD. We writers are prone to it, as I’m sure all creative people are. To quote the Professor in “Shoe”: “Typists pound typewriters… writers stare out of windows”. When I’m not on the road, I’m likely at my computer, which is loaded with files of ideas hatched during traffic gridlock. Some of them eventually coalesce into threads which then become… OOH, SHINY!
Joe: I subscribe to the “three fingers and a thumb” camp of tooners. For whatever reason, five fingers looks weird to me… maybe it’s the Walter Foster how-to cartoon books I had as a kid. Four digits and a glove… that’s the… “OH! SPARKLIES!”
In anycase, I LOVE SHOE! Kona, it makes me happy that you obviously read Shoe. It’s no longer in my paper… and it’s original creator has passed on… but dang it, Cosmo was superb!
For a horror film about old friends squabbling look no further than “IT”. I honestly don’t understand why people are scared of this film; it’s just several hours of a group of cranky old jerks endlessly griping with each other, with the occasional cameo by Tim Curry as the clown.
…and what’s so horrifying about Randie’s life? We’re all enjoying it!
Same with my notebook! I keep all my rough notes for stories and whatnot in it, but I write it in vague-yet-specific ways so that I’m the only one who really understands. If anyone were to read through it I don’t imagine they’d talk to me anymore :)!
