Pint
Pint of Guinness, pint of mint’n chip… what’s your “feel-better” pleasure? I think the ice cream is reserved for REALLY bad days. Do they make a mint’n chip beer? Blecht!

Guinness… blech! (Even when I could drink, I couldn’t stand the stuff!)
As for my “feel-better pleasure”, it’s brownies – or better yet, ice cream with brownies in it! *drool* ๐
I miss Marble Slab ice cream. ๐ We’ve got Cold Stone Creamery locally, but it’s just not as good.
Astragali; The darker the beer, the better! Guiness is the nectar of the Gods! 8^) These American Pale Ales and Lagers that are like making love in a canoe — “***king close to water”.
But I realize that it’s not for everyone.. For the budding French student — “Chacon a son gout!”
How ODD that you would bring this up today! Ever since we got a high end Kitchen-Aid stand mixer, my wife has begun making all sorts of ice cream. The one up for this week? Guiness/Chocolate. A chocolate ice cream that has Guiness beer. No, she’s not making it up; she’s following an actual recipe.
I’ll let you know how it tastes!
Oh my…Guiness ice cream…be still my little heart! By all means, Pete, let us know the results! Years ago a friend and I were contemplating a Fosters beer/Fosters Freeze sort of soda. Y’know, for really bad days.
A double espresso, neat, in a ceramic demitasse; NOT a paper cup; and a cold glass bowl of frozen vanilla yogurt, served by a cute barista with a sympathetic smile. Makes all right with the world.
Many years ago my ex broke her jaw and we put pizza and beer in the blender so she could eat it through a straw.
The Stinking Rose in SF has Garlic ice cream so why not Guiness ice cream?
As for your question: I think my comfort food depends on what needs to be comforted. Emotional comfort is probably cookies for me.
Apparently you all like beer and/or ice cream…
Pete… your wife is most adventuresome… yes, we’ll need a report.
I agree that certain comfort foods depend on the situation, Red Tail…. although, I am not sure garlic ice cream has an application. Of course… I’d try it for giggles.
Kona: your comfort food sounds good… switch out the ice cream for frozen yogurt with caramel sauce. (ooo, I’m drooling). Wait, that brownie sounded good!
Nice twist. Funny stuff
wmcduff: I’m intrigued by Marble Slab, though there aren’t any stores in CT at present. As for Cold Stone, I only ever go there to use the free-ice-cream coupon on my birthday ๐
Brig: Brownies are always good! ๐
As far as feel-good drinks are concerned, I love making home-made Frappuccino Cremes – the Hamilton Beach “Wave Station” blenders are ideal for this, because they can get the ice really nice and fine in only a few seconds… And of course, you can make whatever flavour you like (caramel or butterscotch for me at the moment) ๐
I tried a teeny bit of wine at a Christmas party once. Yuck! Alcohol is not for me. I like ice cream but I can only have about 3 spoonfuls and I feel done with it. So neither for me, cookies all the way :D!
Iโm not a nutrition purist; I also love a good quality ice cream. HD Mint Chip or Dulce de Leche rocks me gently. Iโm pretty much a snob about my ice cream; BR doesnโt do it for me any more. Maybe itโs just the local stores, but they seem to be keeping it too long and letting it get crystallized; the worst thing you can do to a quality product.
Tried a chocolate beer recently. Probably would have been good if the description on the label had been accurate. Words like smooth and mellow.
Instead, it tasted like two or three people each added more bittering hops than it needed. Worst thing I ever tried to drink.
Ben & Jerry’s “Steven Colbert’s Americone Dream”…. addicted! (whether I need comfort or not!)
Americone Dream…. what’s in it? What flavors?
I’m with Randie…. Just give me the ice cream and a spoon. Don’t go messin’ it up tryin’ to be creative.
Brig, Wikipedia has the answer to your question:
AmeriCone Dream is vanilla ice cream with fudge covered waffle cone pieces and a caramel swirl. […] Colbert claims the ice cream actually tastes like he does.
OH! OH! AmeriCone Dream sounds WONDERFUL! I don’t suppose they have a lactose friendly version….?
My dad used to keep those frozen ice cream cones in the freezer all the time… they’d have the waffle cone, vanilla ice cream with the hard chocolate on top and chopped nuts… and on the inside would be caramel! So Colbert’s B&J flavor is my dad’s stuff deconstructed.
Soy Ice Cream… Hmm, i would go for that right now. Well, propably i am B. B. in male version :-), vegan by choice.
I’ve had Soy Ice Cream…. it’s not bad… Tofutti Cuties are tastey! Can’t just stop at one though.
