I know where you’re going with that, Ryan, but you forget that people don’t have to be religious to enjoy caroling, especially if it’s a habit or tradition – it’s the caroling itself, not the words or their meaning, that are important to some. Heck, most of us learned those old Christmas songs and could sing them by heart LONG before we had any idea what we were singing about, anyway. Heh.
Feh. Don’t get me started on how the true meaning of the holidays has been long lost to history and how those who scream the loudest about the “war on Christmas” are actually the same people doing the most damage to it …
Of course, there’s nothing wrong with actually belonging to a church and being, you know, a Christian. Despite the many, many loud voices decrying religion these days, it’s NOT a character flaw to have faith in God. And despite some poor examples of people “practicing” their religion, the overwhelmingly vast majority of believers are good people who live quietly and wish only the best for all, and live accordingly.
Grey… true. Caroling isn’t just for the faithful. And the “War on Christmas” is nicely commented upon by Stephen Colbert. His comedy on the matter, makes me smile. I would like to see those who cry “war on Christmas” ACT in a Christmasy manner.
meem… true. Tattoos and faith can live in/on the same body.
Pete… true. This will be a learning experience to Ryan who is an outsider to faith. Pete, Faith is a wonderful thing. It gives off a nice glow… especially when you are singing with a bit of that cider that was spoke of earlier… or not. I keep striving for that Human Torch thing… so far, I got a few sparks… I am working on it though!
Ah well, Ryan appears to be another of those people who disdain what they don’t understand. Nothing unusual about that. Colbert made a highly profitable career of it, and the world just keeps on turning.
A. Rat… no-no… Ryan doesn’t disdain people of faith… he just doesn’t HAVE faith. So he doesn’t really understand it. There is a difference.
Colbert makes fun of those who disdain those who have faith…or those who CLAIM to be Christians but don’t act like it… I can think of a few politicians right now. He does, however, go REALLY overboard at times.
Dada… I didn’t know! My estimation of him jus’ went up… (and not just because of that… he portrayed an awesome Herod in Jesus Christ Superstar!)…
Hmmm – how about some Dropkick Murphys from my old stomping grounds in Massachusetts! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qTx-sdR6Yzk
(My girlfriend and I hope to see them in Boston this year.)
Or some actual in-the-spirit Christmas from The Trans Siberian Orchestra? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tG_XTrHUHDk
(Not my cuppa, not my girlfriend’s cuppa… but somehow in my Christmas collection…)

Lol i like her attitude…we have a biker ministry that comes to our church. Proof that you can’t judge a person by their appearance 🙂

ALLRIGHHHT! WHO’S READY TO RAWK!? YOU MAY KNOW THIS ONE. IT’S CALLED; “AWAY! IN THE! MAAAAAAANNNNGEERRRRRR!!!!”
Rock and roll isn’t synonymous with devils and evil, y’know. Look at Alice Cooper; he’s a minister’s son and a hardcore Christian…and he rocks!
Jack… Ha! You’re a Rawker… you KNOW!
Dada… I didn’t know! My estimation of him jus’ went up… (and not just because of that… he portrayed an awesome Herod in Jesus Christ Superstar!)…
It took Dee Snider doing a Christmas album for me to realize that “O Come All Ye Faithful” and “We’re Not Gonna Take It” are the same song…..
A Heavy Metal Christmas album? How about Dr. Demento’s Christmas Album?

The Auld Grump
UWG…. I can’t see Dee Snider with a Santa Hat or reindeer antlers… but the thought makes me laugh!
M. Lonie… YES! I love me some Demento!
Grump… Festive auditory offerings… DropKick Murphys… I forgot about them! Hee hee… I’m glad my Christmas isn’t anything like THAT!
This is what I am listening to this holiday:
