Heh, clever! I gotta admire Ryan ( and his creator) on two counts for today’s comic: the willingness to discard first edits, and confidence that you will eventually get to an acceptable final product; warming up with half a pad of legal before getting down to real work makes so much sense.
I don’t understand why he’s not writting his paper on a lap top or computer? But yes it’s a process to write. Having done my share my process was quite similar to Ryan. I would do all my research than find and highlight the quotes I wanted to use, map out a rough content of the points I wanted to make. Once that was done, I would sit and start typing the whole thing in one sitting from begining to end. Don’t miss university! Ha!
Yat… yes, I recall that it was an extreme annoyance to many a former teacher. It seems to be some sort of ongoing tradition.
Pete… Ryan, half dazed and looking like a smiling zombie, walked out of the Crown & Cannon with a song in his heart. He had a most outstanding day at work.
bscruff… Ryan exudes confidence…. in a quiet way. He’s not afraid to make mistakes because he knows that if he keeps at it, he’ll eventually get to a happy end result. Unless we’re talking about girls.
Eprinc… a fact that is probably not really recognized… Ryan has a very OLD laptop. It is the same one he had when I started the strip. I’ve been meaning to give him a new one… soon, as he is now a re-entry student, would be good. BUT… he still likes the pen to paper aspect of writing.
Mary… yes… yes, indeed. As an artist, I know this well. I work on my computer and Wacom for the strip, but love carrying my sketchbook around to jot out ideas and sketches and the like. There is nothing like the paper experience in art.
My Pocket Philosopher can come up with single-run writing that is astonishing to behold. I, on the other hand, routinely have to dump my trash bin when attempting to write simply because I can’t stomp it down any further. I had to switch to electronics…… I was killing too many trees!
Lady Jenn… that was very Environmentally friendly of you. I use a lot of paper to sketch out/write ideas upon… however, they are “messed up” printer paper or paper they send me thru the mail (junk mail)… and then it gets recycled after I have transferred my ideas to the computer.
Trash can basketball…this was my 4th grade teacher’s BIGGEST pet peeve. I very nearly bought her a trash can basketball hoop for Christmas that year.
So whu happened to the KISS?? Ya can’t leave us hanging, Brig!

The results of writing on paper and on laptop can be quite different.
I thought that Rye’s 2nd panel comment might be somewhat sarcastic.

Beetles… It did have that aspect… but the followup is more sincere.
