Order Up
Retail humor…. Art imitating life. In my Art Store days, we used a handheld order unit with a scanner… you scan the barcode and entered quantities…. and when you amassed an order you would upload it… or rather, you gave it to the person in charge of uploading… and magically, the art supplies showed up within a week or so. In a strange way, it was kinda satisfying.
Fortunately I only have to deal with my own paperwork in my job. Unfortunately it’s a freaking nightmare to requisition anything! You ever try to get so much as a pen out of a monolithic bureaucracy?! And my job requires I get my hands on firearms!
…. so yeah, I can only imagine having LAYERS to the process! Makes my head spin just thinking about it!
Perversely, when I worked in retail it was at a computer store, but the state of the art was so low we had to do all that stuff by hand! There WERE no hand scanners and no email and no internet!
Lady J… as a self-employed person myself, I handle the paperwork, the tax stuff, and all that… but at least I don’t have to fill out a form to get post-it notes and Uniball pens.
Rich… hasn’t the internet made everything so quick and accessible? Immediacy and NOWness is greatly improved.
The worst thing I’ve tripped over so far has been filling out a requisition form to get, of all stupid things, MORE REQUISITION FORMS! “Why yes, I do so enjoy my paperwork, could I get some paperwork for that?” *Sarcasm*
Lady J… ha ha! Then you’d love France. Apparently, the French have just what you’ve described… paperwork for the paperwork! I just finished reading (I know! I read something…) a book called “Paris Letters.” It is a bubble gum reading book, which is why I finished it… anyhow… it’s about a woman who drops her life in LA to move to Paris for awhile and ends up meeting someone and staying… she goes on about the paperwork involved in the visas and then *spoiler alert*** marriage stuff.
