Well, the weather has been unseasonably warm here in Monterey. So the timing on this toon is… timely. Usually… January is cold.

Randie dislikes cold and yet wishes that summer would hurry up and arrive in Cypress City?
Mark Twain is famously credited to have said (but apparently never did),
“The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco.”
Figure in that Monterey (aka, Cypress City) is generally cooler yet than San Fran, and…
Winter doesn’t look so bad anymore.
Nonetheless… Awesome single panel art.
Steinbeck can shove it, 50F is as cold as I can put up with.
Okay… so THIS morning there was FROST on the cars and on the rooftops. It was definitely cold last night.
Stick… Temps are generally higher in the summer… You forget, Cypress City is fictional… perhaps the temps are slightly higher than real-life Monterey. Maybe slightly less fog… maybe.
Thanks for the compliment. I had several different captions for this toon… it sat in my “waiting” box for quite some time…. finally the right quote presented itself and all was well.
“The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco” would aptly describe my own personal experience. I agree with Randie.
Dani… I don’t do well with extreme temps, myself. Too hot or too cold is nuh-uh for me. I don’t know how Minnesota people do it! Quite frankly, I’m not sure how I survived near 5 years of living in Barstow.
DrFuse… (welcome to comments!)… Yah, the tourism industry in Cisco makes tons of money on coats, sweatshirts and warm things for those coming to California expecting “California weather.”
Brig,
Aw, c’mon. We haven’t seen minus 30 degrees yet. Global warming? We love it!
wev’e had some nice days as of late, but today was mighty cold. Especially with the wind coming directly off the ocean.
By the way, I like the otter.
Joe… um… cheer up.
Squid… the otter was originally in the conversation… and there was a seagull, as well. But I thought differently. … and I like the otter, too.
We had a decent snow storm up here where I’m at over the last week or two and the snow and ice is just melting off. I love the snow but I’m not too keen on the damages left behind by the ice, broken trees and downed power lines everywhere. My apartment complex kept it’s power on but we lost a lot of trees on the property, one that came perilously close to busting through someone’s balcony and into their apartment. A foot or two closer and it would have been in their living room.
