People like Grace are the kind of people you hope are among the first to turn into zombies if ever a zombie-infection spreads. Then you get to legitimately drive over them with a steam roller. Slow. Starting from the feet.
TALLAHASSEE: “You know how you roll up a tube of toothpaste from the bottom?”
COLUMBUS: “Yes, I always roll it up from the bottom.”
TALLAHASSEE: “The head is the cap.”
From Zombieland
I just feel sorry for grouchy people. They have few friends and are very unhappy. But not sorry enough to try to cheer them up. It’s usually a lost cause and only leads to frustration and grouchiness of my own.
Still… there is almost always a reason for grouchiness. It’s true that Grace could just be a jerk. But it’s also possible she has a lot in her background or in her private life that bring this on. It may or may not explain her surly attitude toward the world, but knowing her story might help us understand her. Always think the best of people. Yes, it will set you up for some tough times and you’ll be seen as the sucker many times. But if you are able to reach just one person and help them cheer up, it could be worth it.
So while I might THINK about the Zombieland scenario above, in reality I’d hope I would be civil and friendly the way Randie tries to be.
Yes, Grace is a complete non-happy person… and it’s pretty clear that she dislikes Randie and makes use of any opportunity to belittle her. I suspect Grace had a horrible upbringing… with lots of abuse in the home and the “ignoring” of small children. Like Professor Snape in The Potter series, the behavior comes from somewhere.
