It’s not clear if the stuff that’s going to happen is good or bad, as in “the stuff is going to hit the fan.” But if she goes at it mad, it may not be sweet smelling in the end.
Meanwhile, Ryan is either experiencing a booze buzz or is fantasizing about feminine feisty-ness.
stick,
I don’t think Randie is angry, she’s just determined, confident, full of hope. She doesn’t get that way very often, so it is hard to recognize. Now let’s hope she can make stuff happen…good stuff, that is.
stick & Jude… sometimes you have to tell the New Year you mean business… one can do this with a shaking fist and a “I mean business face…” or squinty eyeballs and smile. I think that the former is Randie’s method.
Pete… a constant evaluating nature is a good thing to have. I think Ryan and Ben Franklin said it best in this past Sunday’s strip.
I’d certainly give a penny for Ryan’s thoughts in panel 2.
Dada… Har har. You crack me up.
brig… Kaizen, it’s a Japanese life/work/process philosophy that means “continuous improvement.” Randie may go further with comic kaizen than with confrontational ultimatums. Just saying.
Agreed! Which is why I don’t limit it to just New Year’s. When a “resolution” comes to mind, I start it at that moment rather than wait for the New Year. I mean, if I’m REALLY resolved to do something, there’s not much point in putting it off, right?
Sadly, Randie is doomed (typecast) for lifelong serial failure. Afterall, the comic is named Squid (“skid”) Row not Sevile Row, or Rodeo Drive for that matter. Hey, look at Charlie Brown. The guy has got to be in his mid-50’s by now and he still goes to kindergarten. Now I would think that most kindergartens would frown on having men in their mid 50’s attend their classes as students, but the guy looks young for his age. He also doesn’t learn well. After 50 or more years of having a football yanked away just as he’s about to kick it, he still falls victim for the same joke. Yup, eternal optimism can be a curse.
stick… eternal failure isn’t exactly how I would sum up the comic strip… but failure is a fact of life. How we deal with it and life’s disappointments is the interesting part. Learning to deal with things with grace… that’s interesting.
punk… yah… just another reveler… I shoulda put boozles around them.
stick… years ago Berke Breathed’s cartoon strip, Bloom County had a Sunday toon entitled: The Official Handbook for better Comix Comprehension… It gave examples of bulbles, surprisles, sweatles, zipples, shooples, cranial smoke, and boozles. It’s a classic and deserves Googling.
drfuse… hmmm. The cost of dog food would eat her out of what passes for house and home. Ryan, on the other hand…
brig.
Considering your comment “Learning to deal with things with grace… that’s interesting;” yes but “Learning to deal with things with Grace… that’s scary. “
Beetles… I didn’t know… Kaizen sounds like some research waiting to happen… between the Japanese meaning given be stick and the fad you just reported… it could be a fun storyline somewhere.
I like your grace vs. Grace… also a funny waiting to happen! Nice! I give you the credit on that…
Ooo, she’s starting the year on an angry note.

On KYW News this morning, they said that new gym memberships go way, WAY up in early January, but that by March, 80% of them have been canceled.
One year for Lent I gave up New Year Resolutions. It’s worked so well, I made it permanent. 😉

Later that night Randie made stuffing for dinner, and had Doublestuf Oreos for dessert. She was stuffed.
dada… not THAT stuff! Ya know… OTHER stuff!
I’d certainly give a penny for Ryan’s thoughts in panel 2.

Can’t wait to see what transpires for Ms. Randie!

I thought I saw Pennywise in the background, then I realized it must be another reveler.
Pete…. agreed.
EofO… yes, it’s a new year… who knows…

Huh? What are boozles?
I am hoping that this year Randie gets a dog.

stick,
Kaizen sounds a lot like 1920’s self-help fad of Couéism. Do you know if they’re related?
brig.

Why does such a statement sound as if it is a challenge to the gods and to Edsel Murphy? One should never challenge Murphy.
