She likes coffee, art supplies and painting… so it’s not like she doesn’t find happiness at work. That money thing can be a real joy killer though.
Work may be an unpopular way to earn money, but at least it’s honest. I’ve had valuables stolen, had distant encounters with associates of differing gangs and seen more robbery/murder reports than I would like.
Come to think of it, some of those gang contacts where downright direct. Societally acceptable work is the way to earn money, but whose societal rules is one following?
I’m pretty sure that work is the ONLY way to “earn” money, although there are surely other ways to acquire it. Randie’s problem isn’t that she has to work; it’s that she doesn’t enjoy her day job. Few of us do. She needs to view it as the means to pursue her passion, and she’s fortunate that she has such a rewarding passion. Pity the empty lives whose existence is an endless round of work, eat, TV and sleep.
Pete… I don’t know how people do more than one job… I’m spent after a full day of cartooning. I did part-time work along with my full-time UC load… and that was difficult.
stick… Randie needs to adjust her attitude for sure. She gets a discount at The ARtbox…. and she’s around artist “toys” all day. That’s pretty nifty. She COULD be working at der Hot Dog stand.
… and yes, it is an honest living.
Kona… Randie needs some sleep, too… it’s hard to have a good attitude when you are devoid of sleep. She needs to recognize how good she really has it. Many folks is out of ONE job. Here she has three.
Dada… Panel one DOES have a grungy thing going on… and … I am not a fan of Cobain… so let’s leave the Teen Spirit elsewhere, shall we? But you’re right.
I often say that my job gets in the way of my life. But to get the job I now have, I worked plenty of others to get myself through college. They were only doable because they were the means to the end.
Fuse… yah, it’s funny how that works… a means to an end can sometimes take you the long way around… but at least it’s coming around.
Jack… It’s the most LEGAL way.
Yat…. truly? Ah… the smell of baking bread…. ah…. Bread is like some sort of addiction in my family. It’s our downfall. But I tells ya…. a little french bread dunked in some olive oil and balsamic and I am… ahhhhhhhh, in heaven.
stick… Only on her lunch break…. she’s merely drowsy on the sales floor. I’m sure she’s producing quality work there.
*ugh* Been there, done that. Full time college, full time job, part time job. There’s the upside of getting older (usually). Non-killer schedules.

I love the first-panel Randie! Very grunge rock (is it in bad taste to make a Kurt Cobain comparison?).

I dunno, Mouse. I think it’s a popular way to make money. It’s not exactly the most fun, but it’s like Randie said, “I need the dough.”
I used to work in a bakery. The work wasn’t easy, but I needed the dough.
Yat… Hardy, har, har.
Randie would prefer to sleep at home, but she needs the dough so…
she sleeps at work instead.
