How odd! After reading this, I sat down for breakfast & grabbed my copy of “Down but Not Out” to finish it up, and what should I find on the first page in front of me but Rye-bread complaining to Midge about the latest Batwing comic being sold out! And regarding the “Arkham Asylum” that those comics (and movies) have become so fond of incorporating, you know that that’s a direct “import” from the works of HP Lovecraft, right?
And THAT’S why you should have a store subscription, Randie! When we owned Left Half Comics in Phoenix back in the 80s, anyone could be a subscriber. No minimum and 10% off all purchases. The only catch was you had to buy a copy of the comic(s) on your list. But that also meant you would get a copy.
It was a win-win for everyone. We knew how many of each comic to order; our customers were guaranteed a copy; and everyone knew they’d be buying from Left Half.

Rich,
I suspect the importation may have been indirect.
For any unaware of it, Arkham was (is ?) Lovecraft’s image of Salem.
Rich… Nay, as one who’s science fiction knowledge doesn’t go much past Star Wars… I didn’t know. I now know.
Beetles… yes, indirect. Thank you for the elaboration.
