When I read the comment under the comic, my brain instantly rendered it in the voice of the guy who did the voiceovers in the Batman TV series LOL (William Dozier (uncredited), according to Wikipedia).
I loved Batman! I was in Kindergarten the year the campy show came out, but I thought it was SO cool! What made it even cooler was that my PARENTS loved the show, too! Of course, they watched for entirely different reasons; the camp, the famous actors, and the terrific silliness of the stories. I missed all of that. In fact, I thought that Ceaser Romero, Burgess Meredith, Frank Gorshin, Vincent Price, Roddy McDowell, and etc. became famous BECAUSE they’d been on Batman, playing the villains Joker, Penguin, Riddler, Egghead, Bookworm, and etc. . *lol!*
And you’re not too far off the mark there, Astragali. I envision a CATWOMAN coming in to break up Max’s little dream world. Only take out “woman” and put in MONSTER.
Will Max’s dreams appear on canvas? Or will he be ALL WASHED OUT?? Stay tuned, Faithful Reader, and find out Tomorrow: SAME SQUID TIME!! SAME SQUID SITE!!
Same Bat time… I mean Squid Time! Ha! I’m so happy that the un-intended correlation has been made! Because…
I, too, LOVED the TV show BATMAN. Oh yes, I was parked in front of the tv everyday at the same Bat time, same Bat channel. I had the Bat-alarm clock… Bat-ViewMaster, I had costumes, comics & coloring books. Pete, we coulda been best pals there in the 70’s.
Astragali: I’d forgotten about Egg Head and Vincent Price! SOOOOO cool!
Rob Redtail… I am so pleased that I have readers in Germany! My coffee cup has been blessed by a few of them! So do you know a squiddy in Germany?
Drop as many hammers as you can on Max. He called San Francisco by that dreaded and most foul of nicknames, ‘Frisco’. San Francisco is either referred to as SF or The City. Nothing else. If Max did that in The City, he would be kicked to the curb, horrifically snubbed or set upon by a pack of vigilante drag queens. Depends on the neighborhood you are in. Love the strip BTW.
It’s true, yes! I have heard of people being “taken out” for referring to San Francisco in this manner. Max, who is truly clueless, has made this faux pas and if he DOES ever make it to SF, will probably never be heard from again.
…and thank you for the kudos.
I second whoever made the motion to put Jimmy Chow and Max in a room together and let them ego-fight it out :)! Poor Spill’s gonna become an asprin junkie if this doesn’t get fixed soon!

(ZOMG… Vincent Price was in Batman as Egghead!)

GG: Frisco is a ghastly abbreviation, isn’t it?
Brig: Funny how it all comes back to Mr. Price 😉
