Now, now, you artists just have to accept that “one little thing” because it’s the OLT that makes us patrons feel we actually DID something to contribute to the project. See how that works? 😉
Grey… ah… well there’s the whole money thing… and the choosing of the artist in the first place… but I’ll give you the OLT. Smiles.
Suzii… ha… well… If I had the moxie to do that I would. I’m not sure Randie would either… then she wouldn’t have anything to roll her eyes and grumble about.
I feel the same way when I create a beautiful, selling, radio commercial, and the advertiser hates it and wants something horribly lame, then I catch it when the product doesn’t sell.
Lee A… Oh dear. Your work is SO out there for all to hear. Okay… so you must have some GREAT stories of stuff you had to air… against your better judgement! I’d love to hear some… but I imagine you can’t really.
Grey… OH MY… how racy! Um… parental guidance is advised.
Dada… HA! Yes… you know this routine. Unicorns with bedazzled unicorn saddles riding down sparkly rainbows… Oh… this needs to be a toon.
EofO… he’s becoming Mr. Bossy Mouse, ain’t he? Assertive little *&$$#@. OH… um…sorry.
Wow, that’s some comic. Big build-up to a convenient release. Ahh.
Makes me wonder what kind of Squid Row fan art you could conjure up.
And, if you take that as a challenge, then all the better.
Seems racier than it should, I suppose, to those who hadn’t been reading the story. Guess I shoulda given you a heads-up on that. If you were reading the story up to that point, you would have known something was weird even before getting to the last panel, so I kinda aimed a bit at the “inside joke” section … hehehe
Curious to hear what Dada thinks, I have a feeling it’s more up his alley.
Lee – I feel your pain. For example “Great script! Only, could you put our phone number in there?” Sure, if you don’t mind cutting out five other words…
Gregor is a mature-rated comic, but don’t let that throw you. He’s an alien trying to blend in, so the mature-level is due to his readiness to use violence when he deems it necessary and the fact that the girl he’s friends with (Katie) does have a propensity for wearing skimpy clothes and teasing Gregor often about his naivete when it comes to Earth culture.
There are NSFW wallpapers available for donations, and a no-holds-barred policy on commissions (as those who read Tyler’s note about my commission will no doubt realize), but the comic content is much more sedate, moderate violence and really hardly any nudity – only thing ever shown so far was Katie’s chest, was done only in three strips so far (two in a row, as the scene ran over two strips, then another later) and in all cases was pertinent to the ongoing story, not just blatant fanservice for no reason.
Which is one of my standards, I do love me some fanservice sometimes, but really hate how some authors get lazy and just throw it in, rather than finding a way to blend it seamlessly into the story or at least be honest and make it stand-alone filler art. Throwing scantily-clad or nekkid women into the background for no apparent reason just says to me, “feh, I couldn’t be bothered to TRY …” That just insults my intelligence, you know? 😀
And yes, I count the paper dolls as fanservice (smirks at Brig), just cuz it would likely make Brig blush to think of it that way. ::snicker:: Yeah, I’m a li’l stinker.
Grump… yes… sadly, that is usually the outcome… you seem to have experience. You and Dada could share a few stories, I bet.
Grey… no, no… I’m an adult (really… I am… or is it… really? I am?) Ha. I read Scapula… where there’s poop humor and bad words. Does that make one an adult? or just a reader of Mad Mag?
YOU ARE a li’l stinker… smiles. I’m glad your intelligence gets insulted by gratuitous nekkid-ness. I agreee and I feel the same way about foul language and violence.
Hi, Scott M…. your pain is felt. Lee’s pain is felt… we gots lots of pained people here…. what to do!?
@Greywolf I don’t think it’s any racier than what ends up on television these days, so don’t sweat it! The fact that you got your art out there already puts you miles ahead of the countless people who don’t have the courage to show their work, so be proud of yourself.
The ‘Street Fighter II’ sounds were a nice touch as well!
@AuldGrump This is why it’s imperative to charge an hourly rate. The client can request all the revisions they want as far as I’m concerned, but they’re going to pay for all the time involved.
@Dada nice to know at least one person caught that. Putting a sound from Tekken would have been more appropriate, given the wallpaper that Tyler put up a couple months ago, but I’m not familiar enough with Tekken to think of what would be as recognizable. So I went with what I knew.
Now, now, you artists just have to accept that “one little thing” because it’s the OLT that makes us patrons feel we actually DID something to contribute to the project. See how that works? 😉
How’s Randie at the bench press? http://ypcomic.com/2011/05/04/the-around-the-block-gambit/
And since the customer knows nothing about design, he’s quite sure that the tiny change does not cause a total rewrite.

Nice logo. Its a simplified version of Pittsburgh Paints’ painted “P” logo.
Ya know, if she’s being paid by the hour, Mouse’s OLT means a bigger commission. And, if nothing else, he’ll need to spring for more coffee.
Mary… true dat.
stick… Is it? It’s hard to see, but part of the “P” is a paint brush.
In Randie’s world, coffee is a form of payment. If you recall, Joe’s Cuppa Joe was paying her in part with coffee cards.
I feel the same way when I create a beautiful, selling, radio commercial, and the advertiser hates it and wants something horribly lame, then I catch it when the product doesn’t sell.
Well, Brig and fellow Squiddies —
If you want a chance to laugh at me, here you go. I went and got a bit crazy, and …
… submitted some fan art. Guess he was desperate for filler because he POSTED it. o.O Check it out, http://gregor-comics.com/
“Could you add a crowd scene of ten thousand people riding unicorns, and every one of them has a fancy hat? It’s just a little addition.”
So much for Mouse’s big crush, what?

And then there is the everlasting joy of the client asking for changes – and you put in more time.
And the client asks for more changes, and you put in more time.
And the client asks for MORE changes, and you put in MORE time.
And then the client decides that they like the original version better after all…. >:^(
